Abstract: The investigation in this research use two types of polymers are polyvinyl acetate (PVA) and poly ol (PO) include mixed by (1 : 3) to obtain a polymer blend which has been used percentages (5%, 10%, 15%, 20%) to be mixed with cement, and old newspapers for the production of cement fiber board, where cut old newspapers and mixed with an electric mixer after the addition of a quantity of water (0.6), then drained, mixed with the polymer blend and added the remaining amount of water from the prescribed percentage ,added to it cement gradually .The mixture poured into certain molds and left to harden for 28 days and then cut off by the ASTM to study the physical and mechanical properties for the board had better specifications at any ratio of the polymer blend additive.the rice husks have been taken ,cleaned washed and dried for several days, grinded by volumetric fraction less than 600 micrometers. The powder added to the cement , mixed with the polymer blend and water by ratio 0.6 .The mixture poured into molds and left for 28 days and then cut off by international standard specifications to study the physical and mechanical properties to see any percentages is the best .The results that 10% of the polymer blend was the best ratios for the board which characterized by good specifications with 5% of old newspapers and rice husks, which used the fibers of oldVInewspaper after shredded and mixed with cement and the addition of the husks of rice milled at different rates for the best results and to obtain strong cement fiber board.These samples were made and cut according to standard specifications and for mechanical tests (such as flexural strength ,compressive strength and tensile strength) and physical properties (density, water absorption)and thermal properties (thermal conductivity and combustion resistance).The results were showed that the panels containing old newspaper 5% is better than others in terms of the physical ,mechanical and thermal properties in which were added of polymer blend 10% . The samples contained old newspapers , rice husks 5% and 10% of the polymer blend have the best results of which contain old newspaper with 5% silica and 10% of the polymer blend.

Abstract: تضمن البحث ثلاث محاور : - الاول تحضير خليط بوليمري مكون من (ايبوكسي - اسفلت) وبنسب (30% - 70%), (40% - 60%), (50% - 50%), (60% - 40%), (70% - 30%) واعتمد منها النسبه الافضل (50% - 50%) كاساس في الخليط البوليمري. في المحور الثاني تحضير خليط بوليمري مكون من (اسفلت - بولي ستايرين - ايبوكسي) وحسب النسب التاليه (50% - 0% - 50%), (50% - 10% - 40%), (50% - 20% - 30%), (50% - 30% - 20%), (50% - 40% - 10%), واعتمدت افضل نسبه مقاومه للحوامض الكيمياويه (50% - 20% - 30%) تتوازن فيها الخواص الميكانيكيه. اما المحور الثالث تحضير خليط بوليمري مكون من الايبوكسي والبولي اثيلين عالي الكثافه وبنسب ايبوكسي (5% - 10% - 15% - 20% - 25%)افضل نسبه هي 15% واعطت اعلى قوة شد موازيه للسطح مقدارها 14.4 ميكاباسكال. تم دراسة العديد من الخصائص الميكانيكيه من شد موازي للسطح وشد عمودي على السطح ومقاومة انحناء, حيث اضهرت النتائج ان النماذج المحضره من الخليط البوليمري (ايبوكسي - اسفلت) يمتلك افضل الخصائص الميكانيكيه في الضروف الاعتياديه مقارنه مع النماذج الاخرى كشد موازي للسطح (1.19 - 3.24 - 16.1 - 22.2 - 27.2) ميكاباسكال, وشد عمودي على السطح (1.76 - 2.84 - 4.25 - 6.75 - 8.87) ميكاباسكال, ومقاومة انحناء (26.8 - 3.94 - 7.47 - 8.5 - 11.5)ميكاباسكال. اظهرت النتائج ايضا ان النماذج المحضره من الخليط البوليمري (اسفلت - بولي ستايرين - ايبوكسي) يتمتع بمقاومه عاليه للحوامض الكيمياويه لكنها بينت في نفس الوقت ضعف في الخواص الميكانيكيه لذلك يجب ان تكون اضافة مادة البولي ستايرين بنسب محدده مساويه الى (10% - 20% - 30% - 40%).بالاضافه الى ذلك اظهرت النتائج ان هناك انخفاض بالخواص الميكانيكيه للنماذج المحضره من الخليط البوليمري (ايبوكسي - بولي اثيلين عالي الكثافه) كلمزاادت نسبة الايبوكسي وكانت قوة الشد الموازيه للسطح (9.9 - 11.1 - 12.5 - 14.4 - 11.7 - 10.9) ميكاباسكال وقوة الشد العموديه على السطح 17.5 - 15 - 13.5 - 9.5 - 6.69 - 3.35), اما مقاومة الانحناء تكون كبيره جدا تتجاوز الحد المطلوب. | The research consists of three routes : The first route is the preparation of polymer blend which contains (epoxy - asphalt) with proportions (30% - 70%), (40% - 60%), (50% - 50%), (60% - 40%), (70% - 30%), and depends on the best that is (50% - 50%) as a principal in polymer blend in the next dimension. The second route is the preparation of polymer blend contain (asphalt - polystyrene - epoxy) with proportions about (50% - 0% - 50%), (50% - 10% - 40%), (50% - 20% - 30%), (50% - 30% - 20%), (50% - 40% - 10%), and depends on the best resistant proportion to the chemical acids (50% - 20% - 30%) in which the mechanical properties are balanced. The third one is the preparation of polymer blend contains epoxy and high density polyethylene with proportions of epoxy as (5% - 10% - 15% - 20% - 25% ), the best is (15%) as a high parallel tensile strength of the surface 14.4 MPa. Most of the mechanical properties have been studied of the parallel tensile strength of the surface and the perpendicular tensile strength on the surface and bending resistance. The results showed that the prepared samples from the polymer blend (epoxy - asphalt) has the best mechanical properties in the familiar conditions compared as with the other samples as parallel tensile of the surface (1.19 - 3.24 - 16.1 - 22.2 - 27.2) MPa and a perpendicular tensile on the surface (1.76 - 2.84 - 4.25 - 6.75 - 8.87) MPa and bending resistance (26.8 - 3.49 - 7.47 - 8.5 - 11.5)MPa. The results also showed that the prepared samples from the polymer blend (asphalt - polystyrene - epoxy) which has a high resistance of the chemical acids but at the same time they showed a weakness in the mechanical properties. So, the addition of polystyrene material in specific proportion (10% - 20% - 30% - 40%). Moreover, the results showed that there was a decrease in the mechanical properties of the prepared samples of the polymer blend (epoxy - high density polyethylene), the proportion of epoxy increased, the parallel tensile strength of the surface (9.9 - 11.1 - 12.5 - 14.4 - 11.7 - 10.9)MPa and the perpendicular tensile strength on the surface (17.5 - 15 - 13.5 - 9.5 - 6.69 - 3.35) MPa, while the bending resistance largely exceeds the required limit.

Abstract: The activity concentrations of radium - 226 (226Ra), actinium - 228 (228Ac) and potassium - 40 (40K), which represent the main naturally occurring radioactive material (NORM), were measured in the oil stations of AHDEB oil field in Wassit governorate in Iraq. These activity concentrations were determined using gamma - ray spectroscopy with a hyper - pure germanium (HPGe) and sodium iodide (NaI (Tl)) detectors.The activity concentrations of the obtained data of the crude oil samples were revealed that the overall average specific activity (SA) for 226Ra, 228Ac and 40K were 174.72, 43.46 and 355.07 BqL ⁄. While, the maximum SA values of 226Ra and 228Ac were 212.30 and 52.42 Bq/L for the Crude oil sample taken from the well 32 of the layers of Musharraf oil field, and the maximum SA value of 40K was 465.35 Bq/L for Crude - oil sample taken from the Rumaila layer of the first well. The minimum SA values of 226Ra, 228Ac and 40K were 126.37, 30.59, and 229.98 Bq/L for the Crude oil sample under Hydrostatic pressure.The hazard indices have been calculated in the present work, which include radium equivalent activities (Raeq), gamma dose rate (D), external hazard index (Hex), internal hazard index (Hin), annual effective dose which include indoor and outdoor effective dose rate (E) in units of mSv/y and representative level index (Iγr), respectively. The overall average value of Raeq for the crude oil samples set was 264.21BqL⁄. This value is also considered to be normal (UNSCEAR, 1993). The highest Raeq was 311.01 Bq/L for sample taken from the Rumaila layer of the first well and the minimum value was 187.82 BqL⁄.The overall average value D for the full sample set was found to be 122.52 nGyh⁄. The highest value was 144.51 nGyh⁄ that was higher than the permissible value and the minimum value was 86.97 nGyh⁄.The overall average values of Hex and Hin were 0.7138 and 1.1861, respectively. The highest values of Hex and Hin were 0.8403 and 1.3861 and the minimum values were 0.5075 and 0.8403. The overall average value of Iγr was 1.8361. The highest value was 1.3017 and the minimum value was 2.1687. The overall average values of the Eied and Eoed were 0.259 and 0.0648 mSvy⁄.The highest values of Eied and Eoed in mSvy⁄ were 0.7089 and 0.1772 and the minimum values were 0.4266 and 0.1067.For sludge samples, the obtained data revealed that the average activity concentrations for 226Ra, 228Ac and 40K for these set of samples had the values; 340.1, 90.70 and 491.75 Bqkg⁄, respectively. The maximum activity concentrations of 226Ra, 228Ac and 40K were 573.38, 150.89, and 705.26 Bqkg⁄ appeared and the minimum concentrations were 178.64, 54.13, and 273.32 Bqkg⁄. The average value of Raeq was 507.71 Bqkg ⁄, the maximum value was 843.46 Bqkg⁄ and the minimum value was 277.10 Bqkg⁄. The average value of D for the full sample set was found to be 233.98 nGyh⁄. While the maximum value was 388.01 and the minimum value was 127.55 nGyh⁄. The average values of Hex and Hin were 1.372 and 2.291, respectively. The maximum values of Hex and Hin were 2.279 and 3.829 and the minimum values were 0.749 and 1.231. The average values of the Eied and Eoed were calculated to be 1.148 and 0.287 mSvy⁄. The maximum values of Eied and Eoed were 1.903 and 0.476 mSvy⁄ for SL2 sample, and the minimum values were 0.626 and 0.156 for SL6 sample. The overall average value of Iγr was 0.289, whereas the maximum value was 5.802 and the minimum value was 1.914.For ground water, the obtained data revealed that the average activity concentrations for 226Ra, 228Ac and 40K for these set of samples had the values; 25.05, 7.59 and 35.17 BqL,⁄ respectively. The maximum activity concentrations of 226Ra, 228Ac and 40K were 50.29, 15.24, and 76.94 BqL⁄ and the minimum activity concentrations were 13.70, 4.15, and 8.36 BqL⁄. The average value of Raeq was 38.61 BqL ⁄, the maximum value was 78.01 BqL⁄and the minimum value was 277.10 BqL⁄ for W3 sample. The average value of D was 17.75 nGyh⁄. The maximum value was 35.91 nGyh⁄ and the minimum value was 0.092 nGyh⁄. The average values of the Hex and Hin were 0.10 and 0.172, respectively. The maximum values of Hex and Hin were 0.211 and 0.347 and the minimum values were 0.055 and 0.092. The average values of the Eied and Eoed were 0.087 and 0.022 mSvy⁄, respectively. The maximum value of Eied was 0.176 mSvy⁄ and the minimum value was 0.045 mSvy⁄. Whereas the maximum value of Eoed was 0.044 mSvy⁄ and the minimum value was 0.011 mSvy⁄. The average value of Iγr was 0.226. The maximum value was 0.539 and the minimum value was 0.138.For radon (222Rn) measurements, the overall average values of the measured and calculated parameters were 296.64 Bq/m3, 118.65 Bq/m3, 1.651 WLM, 7.48 mSv/y, and 4490 for radon concentration, equilibrium equivalent 222Rn concentration, working level month, annual Effective Dose, and Excess Lung Cancer per Million Persons per Year (ECL).The background radiation of AHDEB oil field was measured and it is noted that this radiation backgrounds were ranged from 50 to 148 nSv.h - 1 with an overall average value of 80.64 nSv.h - 1.List of contents Title Page

Abstract: Due to the possibility of producing secondary radiation when a radiation is being attenuated by a certain type of radiation shield, the use of multilayer shielding appears very useful. This study aims to investigate the use of multilayer materials as nuclear radiation shielding.The work presented in this thesis focuses on the possibility of using polymer materials as a nuclear shield. This polymer (high density polyethylene and epoxy) is chosen due to different reasons among which are its local availability, the ease of mixing additives with it, light weight, and flexibility. The polymer as a single shield was investigated, where five different forms of the polymer were used as a single shield. These kind of shield are polymer (High Density Polyethylene HDPE, and Epoxy) alone, HDPE with a 38%by weight of Pb (as an additive), Epoxy with a 33%by weight of Pb, and Epoxy with a 33% by weight of Al (as an additive). The attenuation coefficient (μ), and buildup factor (B) were measured for all five forms and composition. In particular, the attenuation coefficients were found to increase with the increasing of the Pb or Al additive and decrease with gamma rays energy increase, while the buildup factor where decrease with the increase of the Pb or Al additive and increase with the increasing of energy.On the other hands, the multilayer shielding materials were chosen to be either Al or Pb slides (with different thickness) with a slide of 2.8cm of polymer (HDPE or Epoxy) in different repeated combinations. In order to evaluate the values of μ and B for this multilayer composition, the values of μ and B for each Pb and Al were evaluated. Then these two values were estimated for the different combinations of the multilayer shields.
