Abstract: Abstract The Russian invasion of Ukraine prompted a large number of Ukrainians to flee their homes to the neighbouring countries in Europe in search for a safe place. This situation led to the spotlight of the Ukrainians in the news reports of the Western media. That's, the Western media discourse plays a prominent role in representing the Ukrainian refugees and siding with them at the expense of other refugees who previously came to Europe from different countries in Middle East, Africa and Asia. This study deals with the racial bias phenomenon towards Ukrainian refugees over other refugees who also fled the war in Ukraine or those who come from other regions of conflict outside Europe. This study aims at identifying the macro-topics and examining the micro-strategies and categories that are used to portrays the Ukrainian and the other refugees in news reports, Twitter, YouTube, and other media outlets that dealt with this issue. In addition to the ideological viewpoints in terms of the dichotomy between in-group and out-group refugees. This study hypothesises that news coverage of the Ukrainian crisis during the Russian invasion tended to cover topics in broader and more frequently used contexts. That's to say, Western media portrays Ukrainian refugees as white, Christians, civilized ...etc.; they are associated with the Europeans as they have the same physical characteristics of being white with blond hair and blue eyes. While the rest of the non-European refugees are associated with 'vulnerable', 'dangerous outsiders' or uncivilised peoples. The study also assumed that there is a great diversity in the use of the linguistic vocabularies that reflects this biasness. This diversity reflects in a way or another the racial bias of the European media in representing European and non-European refugees. To investigate these hypotheses and goals, the researchers selected (26) excerpts that are taken from different types of media (Twitter, YouTube, news reports, etc.) to analysed them from a CDA perspective. Accordingly, the researcher adopt two critical discourse analysis approaches: Wodak's (2001; 2009) discourse-historical method and van Leeuwen's (1996;2008) The representation of social actors. To achieve the aims of the current study, it is divided into five chapters. Chapter one is the preliminary chapter. Chapter two deals primarily with the concepts of racial bias and refugees. Chapter three demonstrates in detail the adopted methodology and puts forward the planned procedures for an extensive analysis of the selected data. Chapter four is dedicated for analysing the selected data that are associated with the racial bias phenomenon during the Ukrainian crisis. The analysis takes two axes: The first one includes an analysis of the discrimination stances between refugees who fled war in Ukraine with reference to be Europeans or non-Europeans; a skin colour-based racism. The second axis includes the analysis of the racial bias instances between Ukrainian and non-Ukrainian refugees on the basis of being white with blue eyes and blond hair, being Christian (religion-based racism), and also being civilised or uncivilised from the speaker's point of view. The study comes up with some significant findings and conclusions which are presented in chapter five along with the study suggestions and recommendations. It actually presents an important contribution to the field of CDA.
