Abstract:
تعنى هذه الدراسة بالتحليل اللغوي لاحاديث لاعبي التنس اذ تتناول الاحاديث الانكليزية التي يلقيها لاعبو التنس (من ابناء اللغة الام وسواهم) في المباراة الختامية. تكمن المشكلة في تشفير وفك شفرة احاديث لاعبي التنس من ابناء اللغة الام وسواهم كونها ارتجالية غير مخطط لها وتلقى في سياق رسمي، وهي حالة نادرة. تمت في تلقي الاحاديث، بعبارة اخرى، اصوات كلامية عدة تشتت اذن السامع الانكليزي من ابناء اللغة الام مثل تلفظ كلمة Zurich بصيغة /θurik/ ، في حين ياتي تلفظ هيئة الاذاعة البريطانية (BBC) بصيغة.[ˈzjʊərɪʔk] تهدف الرسالة الى تقديم دراسة مقارنة للخطاب المخطط له مسبقا والخطاب الارتجالي (بقدر ما يتعلق الامر بالمشهد) ، واستقصاء الفوارق الصوتية بين اللكنة الانكليزية التي يستخدمها لاعبو التنس (من ابناء اللغة الام وسواهم) وتلفظ هيئة الاذاعة البريطانية (BBC) وتبيان كيفية تسبب ذلك باشكالية في التشفير وفك الشفرة والتاكد مما اذا كانت ثمة فوارق بين احاديث لاعبات التنس الاناث واللاعبين الذكور وبناء على ذلك تفترض الدراسة ان : 1. تخطيط الحديث قد يؤثر في عملية فك الجمهور للشفرة 2. قد يكون تلفظ هيئة الاذاعة البريطانية(BBC) غريبا لبعض القوميات كما لهؤلاء اللاعبين 3. احاديث الذكور ادق (لغويا) من احاديث الاناث ، او بالعكس.سيطبق التحليل، وفقا لانموذج توليفي، على خمسة نصوص شفوية (ثلاثة نصوص لمتكلمين ذكور واثنين اخرين لمتكلمات من الاناث) يحتمل ان تجرى مقابلتهم او يلقون كلمة اعتمادا على سياق المباراة . وقد توصلت الدراسة للاستنتاجات الاتية : الفرضية الاولى صحيحة والفرضية الثانية صحيحة جزئيا اما الثالثة فغير صحيحة. وتشمل الاستنتاجات الاخرى : وقوع الاخطاء (الصوتية والصرفية والنحوية) في كل من الاحاديث المخطط لها والمرتجلة، غير انها اكثر شيوعا في الاحاديث المرتجلة، لاسيما تلك التي يلقيها متكلمون من غير ابناء اللغة الام، وغالبا ما يساعد السياق على حل اشكاليات سوء الفهم. واما التباين في التلفظ فلا مفر منه اذ ان اللاعبين من قوميات شتى، غير ان الانكليزية لغة عالمية واللاعبون نجوم (ولهم هالاتهم الخاصة بهم التي يسعون الى المحافظة عليها) لذا فان اخطاءهم في التلفظ تشد اليها الكثير من الانتباه ، وتلحق ضررا فادحا بعملية فك الشفرة. تفرض رسمية الموقف _الموقف رسمي ويحضر المباراة ملوك وملكات وشخصيات بارزة كثيرة_ على اللاعبين بذل اقصى جهودهم للتحكم بمقاطعهم الكلامية. اظهر التحليل ان احاديث الذكور اطول من احاديث الاناث. يتالف البحث من مقدمة وثلاثة فصول. تعرض المقدمة مشكلة الدراسة واهدافها وفرضياتها واجراءاتها وعيناتها وحدودها واهميتها. يستعرض الفصل الاول تاريخ لعبة التنس ويبين ابرز محطات تطور اللعبة ولاعبي التنس المشهورين واصول بعض الكلمات المستخدمة في هذه اللعبة ودور الجمهور. يقدم الفصل الثاني نظرة عامة عن تلفظ الاحاديث الانكليزية التي يلقيها اللاعبون ومقدمو البرامج والذين يجرون المقابلات الشخصية ورعاة المسابقات. فيما يتضمن الفصل الثالث التحليل العملي للعينة ومناقشة النتائج التي توصل اليها البحث. وتختتم الدراسة بالاستنتاجات والتوصيات بالاضافة الى مقترحات لدراسات لاحقة. | This study deals with a linguistic analysis of tennis players’ speeches, which tackles the English speeches that are delivered by tennis players (native and non - native speakers) in the final game. The problem lies in encoding and decoding the native and non - native tennis players’ speeches being unplanned, and they are delivered in a formal setting which is a rare case. In other words, in perceiving these speeches, there are many speech sounds that distract the native English listeners’ ears like pronouncing the word Zurich as /θurik/; whereas the BBC pronunciation is [ˈzjʊərɪʔk]. The study aims at presenting a comparative study between planned and unplanned discourse (as far as the setting is concerned), detecting, phonologically, the differences between the English accent of the tennis players (native and non - native speakers) and BBC as well as showing how this causes a problem in the process of encoding and decoding, and checking if there are differences between female and male tennis players’ unplanned speeches. Accordingly, it is hypothesised that : 1. Planning a discourse might affect the crowd’s decoding process 2. BBC pronunciation can be weird to some nationalities as these players 3. Males’ speeches are more accurate (linguistically) than females, or vice versa. The analysis, according to an eclectic model, will be applied to five oral texts (three males’ texts and two females’ ones) which could be interviews or speeches depending on the setting of the match. The study reaches the following conclusions : hypothesis No. 1 is validated, hypothesis No. 2 is partially validated, and hypothesis No. 3 is refuted. Other conclusions are : errors (phonological, morphological, and syntactic) occur in both planned and unplanned speeches, but they are far more with unplanned speeches, specially those speeches which are delivered by non - native speakers, and context helps to solve most misunderstanding problems. Pronunciation mismatches are inevitable since the players are from different nationalities, but because English is a global language and the players are stars (they have their own image which they have to protect) such kinds of pronunciation errors attract so much attention, and they cause a real damage to the decoding process. The formality of the setting (the setting is formal and there are kings, queens, and many celebrities who attend the game) demands that the players have to exert more control over their speech segments. The analysis shows that males’ speeches are longer than females’ speeches. The study consists of an introduction and three chapters. The introduction states the problem, the aims, the hypotheses, the procedures, the data, the limits, and the value of the study. Chapter one reviews the history of tennis which shows the most important turning points in the development of this game, the famous tennis players, the origin of some tennis words, and the role of the crowd. Chapter Two gives a general overview of the pronunciation of the English speeches that are delivered by the players, presenters, interviewers, and sponsors. Chapter Three involves the practical analysis of the data and the discussion of the results which are obtained. The study ends with conclusions, recommendations as well as suggestions for further studies

Abstract:
تهدف الدراسة الى استقصاء الصعوبات التي يواجهها الطلبة العراقيون من الدارسين للغة الانكليزية لغة اجنبية في استخدامهم لافعال الحس. افعال الحس هي التي تعبر عن الشعور الناتج عن الادراك الحسي البشري وتضم : smell ، see ، hear ، taste ، feel ، sound ، touch ، look ، seem وappear . يكمن المشكل مع افعال الحس في امتلاكها عالما خاصا بها وفي تمييزها لسببين : اولا، تتصرف بطريقة نحوية مختلفة عن باقي الافعال لانها توصف بصفات بدلا من الظروف؛ وثانيا، لانها تعد جزءا من نظام دلالي خاص بها. افعال الحس لا تستخدم مع الصيغة المستمرة كونها افعالا ساكنة (stative verbs). مع ذلك، يمكن استخدامها مع الصيغة المستمرة عندما تشير على سبيل المثال الى تغير في الحالة او التاكيد على مدة معينة او عندما تكون افعالا رئيسية ذات معنى مجازي. لقد اظهرت الدراسة ان الطلبة العراقيين يواجهون صعوبات في استخدام افعال الحس على المستويين الادراكي (recognition) والانتاجي .(production) لذا تحاول الدراسة تحقيق الاهداف الاتية : استقصاء الصعوبات التي يواجهها الطلبة العراقيون في استخدام افعال الحس على المستويين الانتاجي والادراكي، الكشف عن كفاءة طلبة كليتين في ادراك وانتاج افعال الحس، تعليل الاسباب الكامنة وراء الصعوبات التي ربما يواجهها امثال اولئك الطلبة في استخدام افعال الحس علاوة على اقتراح حلول ممكنة لها، التعرف على اكثر الاخطاء حدوثا في ادراك وانتاج افعال الحس. لتحقيق اهداف الدراسة، تقدمت الباحثة بالفرضيات التالية (1) يواجه الطلبة العراقيون صعوبات اكثر على المستوى الادراكي منه على المستوى الانتاجي.(2) ان اداء طلبة كلية اللغات، جامعة بغداد في استخدام افعال الحس افضل من اداء طلبة كلية الاداب. (3) يواجة الطلبة صعوبات اكثر في الاستخدام المجازي لافعال الحس منه في افعال الربط. (4) تشكل الاخطاء اللغوية العامل الاكبر وراء الوقوع في الخطا. لاختبار مصداقية الفرضيات صمم اختبار واجرى على (100) طالب من المرحلة الرابعة قسم اللغه الانجليزية من كلية اللغات وكلية الاداب في جامعة بغداد للسنه الدراسيه 2013/2014. توصلت الدراسة الى النتائج الاتيه التي استند عليها في دحض الفرضيتن الاولى والثانية واثبات الفرضيتين الثالثة والرابعة : (1) ان اداء كلا الكليتين افضل في المهام الادراكية منه في المهام الانتاجية. (24%) من العينه اجتازوا المهام الادراكية بينما (7%) فقط اجتازوا المهام الانتاجية.(2) ثمة فرق طفيف بين اداء الكليتين اذ كان اداء طلبة كلية الاداب افضل من اداء طلبة كلية اللغات الى حد ما. فقد اجتاز الاختبار(4) طلبة فقط اي (8%) من كلية اللغات و(4) طلبة فقط اي )16%) من كلية الاداب.(3) ان الاستخدام المجازي لافعال الحس اكثر صعوبة من استخدام افعال الربط. (4) تعد الاخطاء اللغوية التي تشكل (48.1%) اعلى نسبة الاخطاء شيوعا في الدراسة. تتالف الدراسة من مقدمة وثلاثة فصول. تبين المقدمة المشكل وتحدد فرضيات الدراسة واهدافها واجراءاتها وعينتها وحدودها وقيمتها، وتعرض الدراسات السابقة ذات الصلة. يستعرض الفصل الاول التطور التاريخي لافعال الحس عبر المدارس النحوية المختلفة. ثم يعرض الفصل الثاني القضايا الرئيسة لافعال الحس وابعادها النحوية والدلالية والادراكية. وفي الختام، يتناول الفصل الثالث التحليل العملي للعينة ويناقش النتائج المستحصلة. ثم يقدم الباحث عددا من النتائج والتوصيات والمقترحات لدراسات مستقبلية. | The study purports to investigate the difficulties faced by Iraqi college students in the use of verbs of senses. Verbs of senses are those verbs that express perception employed in the process of human sensory cognition,including such verbs as : smell, see, hear, taste, feel, sound, touch, look, listen, seem and appear. The problem with verbs of senses is that they have a world of their own in that they are special for two reasons : first, they behave syntactically different from other verbs because they are modified by adjectives and not by adverbs; second, they form a part of an idiosyncratic semantic system. Verbs of senses are not used in the progressive form because they are stative verbs. However, they can be used with the progressive when they refer, for example, to a change of a state, emphasis upon a duration or when used as a main verb with extended meaning. The study has shown that Iraqi college students face difficulties in using verbs of senses. Consequently, the study attempts to achieve the following aims : investigating the difficulties that Iraqi college students encounter in the use of verbs of senses both on the recognition and production levels; detecting the competence of two colleges students in recognising and producing verbs of senses; accounting for reasons behind the difficulties that Iraqi college students might face in using verbs of senses as well as suggesting possible solutions for them; identifying the highest occurring errors in recognising and producing verbs of senses. To achieve the aims of the study, the researcher presents the following hypotheses (1) Iraqi EFL students face more difficulties in using verbs of senses on the recognition level than on the production level. (2) The performance of the students of the College of Languages,University of Baghdad in using verbs of senses is better than that of the students of the College of Arts. (3) Students face more difficulties in using the extended meaning of verbs of senses than using linking verbs.(4) Linguistic errors are the number one factor behind error making. To test the validity of these hypotheses, a test is designed and administered to (100) students, of the fourth year, department of English, College of Languages and College of Arts, University of Baghdad for the academic year 2014 - 2013. The test consists of two parts : recognition and production; each part comprises two tasks. The study has arrived at the following conclusions upon which hypotheses (1) and (2) are refuted, while hypothesis (3) and (4) are validated : (1) Both colleges perform better on the recognition tasks than they do on the production ones. (24%) of the subjects made the cutting point in the recognition tasks while only (7%) passed in the production ones. (2) There are slight differences in the performance of both colleges with the performance of the students of The College of Arts being better than that of the students of The College of Languages to a certain extent. Only (4) students from The College of Languages that is (8% ) passed the test, while (8) students, i.e., (16%) from The College of Arts passed. (3) The extended meaning of verbs of senses is more difficult than linking verbs (4) Linguistic errors which constitute (48.1%) are the highest type of errors found in the study. The study consists of an introduction and three chapters. The introduction states the problem, sets the hypotheses, aims, procedures and the value of the study, and surveys the relevant previous studies. Chapter One explores the historical development of verbs of senses through different schools. Chapter Two reviews the main issues of verbs of senses and their syntactic, semantic and cognitive dimensions. Finally, Chapter Three involves the practical analysis of the data and discusses the results obtained. Then, the researcher states the conclusions, proposes recommendations and puts forward some suggestions for further studies.
