Abstract: Multi wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) have excellent mechanical, electrical, and thermal properties. When MWCNTs incorporated in to polymer, that’s leads to better improvement in mechanical, electrical, and thermal properties result at low MWCNTs content. Due to the change in the electrical and mechanical properties MWCNTs / Epoxy composites have attracted significant research interest specially due to their potential for application in active control of strain sensing in composites structure or as strain sensor .Different type of MWCNTs, long and short (L - MWCNTs & S - MWCNTs) were used as reinforcement in epoxy resin with volume fraction ( 0.1,0.2, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0 ,4.5, & 5%) respectively were used to prepare epoxy composites in order to examine and study some of their mechanical properties ( tensile strength, Young's modulus, flexural strength, fracture toughness, flexural modulus, Impact strength, and microhardness ), conductivity properties (AC conductivity, thermal conductivity), and morphology properties (SEM,FTIR). Direct mixing processes use to prepared (Epoxy / MWCNTs) composites, its involved use ultrasonic and magnetic stirrer bar mixing process to disperse the MWCNTs into the epoxy resin system. The results shown an improves in the mechanical, thermal, and electrical properties with increase volume fraction (0.1 to 2%), and then decreased with further increasing the MWCNTs content but stay higher than of pure epoxy. At (1.5%) we observed enhancement in tensile strength (28.19%, 15.74%) and Young's modulus (35.71%, 30.95%) for L - MWCNTs and S - MWCNTs respectively, and the higher enhancement in flexural modulus and flexural strength due to 2% vol. fraction of L - MWCNTs reached to (71.43 %, 102.26 %). The high impact strength and microhardness values result at (1. 5%L - MWCNTs) reached to (823.996%), and (41,102%) respectively.Better improvement in thermal conductivity and AC conductivity result at 2% volume fraction for both MWCNTs types compare with pure epoxy. The high thermal conductivity values due to L - MWCNT reached to (369.31%) or three times from the thermal conductivity of pure epoxy, compare with the value of enhancement for S - MWCNTs (183.39 %).Investigations of electrical properties of MWNT/polymer show a significant increase of electrical conductivity with the increase of the MWCNTs content. The AC. electrical conductivity of the sample with 2 % vol. fraction L - MWCNTs reached to four orders of magnitude higher than that of the pure polymer at a frequency range of (5E 4 to 5 E6) Hz, its present(9.66E - 7 to 5.78E - 5 Ω/cm) compare with the AC. electricalconductivity for S - MWCNTs ( 6.57 E - 11 to 2.24E - 5 Ω/cm) at same volume fraction and frequency range and with the electrical conductivity of pure epoxy (4.5E - 12 to 6.2E - 9 Ω /cm).Scanning Electron Microscope images illustrate the morphology of tensile fractured surface of EP/MWCNTs composites, although the morphologies of tensile fractured surface show ductile fracture with dispersed stresses in more than one crack propagation. Increased roughness and ductile behavior shown with increased volume fraction of MWCNTs. Above 2% vol. fraction of MWCNTs we shown increase the agglomeration that’s lead to decrease in properties of epoxy composites.

Abstract: This thesis focused on the study of dye - sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) based on ZnO nanoparticle as a semiconducting layer with two natural dyes.The present study began by synthesizing ZnO nanoparticles by two methods. The first method ZnO nanoparticles prepared by sol - gel method with (0.1, 0.2, 0.3 M) zinc acetate and then thin films of zinc oxide prepared by using spin coating technique with thickness equal to (109 nm), while the second method technique of ZnO nanoparticles prepared by sol gel method (0.2 M) from zinc acetate was selected as the optimum concentration to make thin film of zinc oxide (In the form of a paste) by using doctor - blade technique with thickness equal to (111nm).The effective mass model for spherical particles (Brus equation) for ZnO nanoparticles were (1.3147, 1.4056, 1.6379 nm) for three concentration.The characteristic of the prepared films on glass substrates have been examined by X - ray diffraction analysis (XRD), UV - Vis spectroscopy, photoluminescence spectrum (PL), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Atomic Force Microscope (AFM) and Thermo Graviometric Analysis (TGA).In both methods , ZnO films were prepared on transparent conducting oxide (ITO) coated glass then addition of chlorophyll as sensitized dye which extracted from spinach leaves and anthocayanin pigment from pomegrenate juice and they were used as the working electrode (anode) of dye - sensitized solar cell (DSSCs).The absorption spectra of all dyes were performed by UV - Visible spectroscopy which showed that the dye absorbed light in the visible region from (400 nm) for chlorophyll pigment and (510 nm) for anthocyanenpigment.The (I - V) characteristic curves of the fabricated tow cells were measured and studied at constant light intensity. All photovoltaic parameters of the cells were presented. The results revealed that the extract of Pomegranate by using spin coating lead to the highest efficiency (15%).

Abstract: The present study focused on the modification of the structural, optical and electrical properties and acoustical parameters of poly (vinyl alcohol), poly (vinyl acetate) and polyblend of (poly (vinyl alcohol) + poly (vinyl acetate)) by adding (0, 3, 6 and 9) wt.% of metal complexes, which are : Chloropentaaminecobalt (III) chloride [Co(NH3)5Cl]Cl2 and Potassium Dioxalatocuprate (II) Dihydrate K2[Cu(C2O4)2].2H2O. The mentioned composites films were prepared by solvent casting technique.All samples were structurally investigated by X - ray Diffraction XRD, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy FTIR, Scanning electron microscope SEM which revealed that there is an association between the polymer matrix and the additive.The optical data at wavelengths range (190 - 800) nm, were analyzed and interpreted in term of the theory of phonon assisted indirect electronic transition. It is observed that energy gap decreases as the metal complexes content increases. The smallest obtained energy gap is 1.86 eV for PVAc / [Co(NH3)5Cl]Cl2 composites films. The refractive index, extinction coefficient, and the dielectric constant increase with increasing the concentration of the additive.The D.C electrical conductivity increases with temperature which exhibited a semiconductor behavior. Also the activation energy values are decreases with increase of additive concentration.The A.C electrical conductivity is increased with increasing applied electrical field frequency (102 to 5*106) Hz and with additive concentration. The dielectric constant and dielectric loss were decrease with increasing the frequency and increase with the concentration of the additive.The acoustical parameters have been measured in frequency range of (25, 30, 35 and 40) KHz. Metal complex enhances the ultrasonic absorption coefficient of polymer matrix. The velocity decreases with increasing metal complex.

Abstract: تم في هذه الدراسة تصنيع الخلية الشمسية (CdSe/Si) بتقنية الترذيذ ذي التيار المستمر وذلك بترسيب اغشية رقيقة من سيلنيوم الكادميوم على رقائق من السليكون بسمك مختلف nm(300,400,500) وبزمن ترذيذ مختلف(30,45,60) min ومسافة بين الاقطاب 4cm تحت ضغط فراغي 10 - 5 ملي بار ثم لدنت الاغشية بدرجات حرارة مختلفة K (348,373,423). تم ايضا دراسة تاثير ضغط الاركون اعلى خصائص البلازما والتي تتضمن : درجة حرارة الالكترونTe, كثافة الالكترونات ne وكثافة الايونات ni حيث جرى قياسها تحت ضغوط مختلفة من غازالاركون.لقد وجد ان درجة حرارة الالكترون تقل بزيادة ضغط غاز الاركون وان كثافة الالكترونات تزداد بزيادة ضغط الغازوان سلوك كثافة الايونات مشابه لسلوك كثافة الالكترونات ولكن بقيمة اعلى. ثم تم دراسة الخواص التركيبية للاغشية المحضرة على ارضيات زجاجية بواسطة حيود الاشعة السينية ,(XRD)وقداظهرت نتائج XRD ان الغشاء بسمك nm300 قبل التلدين كانت عشوائية ويزداد التبلور لجميع الاغشية عند زيادة التلدين ليصبح متعدد التبلور . درست الخصائص البصرية لاغشية سيلنيوم الكادميوم المحضرة على ارضيات زجاجية بسمك مختلف قبل وبعد التلدين من خلال قياس طيفي النفاذية والامتصاصية كدالة للطول الموجي وكانت نتائج النفاذية عالية جدا مما جعلها ملائمة لتطبيقات الخلايا الشمسية حيث تبين ان النفاذية تزداد بزيادة درجات حرارة التلدين وتقل بزيادة السمك , وان الامتصاصية تقل بزيادة درجات حرارة التلدين وتزداد بزيادة السمك عند الاطوال الموجية القصيرة. ولوحظ ان معامل الامتصاص البصري لاغشية سليلنيوم الكادميوم يقل تدريجيا بزيادة الطول الموجي ودرجات الحرارة والسمك وان قيم معامل الامتصاص التي تم الحصول عليها هي اعلى من (cm - 1 104) مما يؤكد ان الانتقال هومن النوع المباشر . كما تم حساب فجوة الطاقة البصرية لسمك مختلف وتبين ان فجوة الطاقة تزداد بزيادة درجة الحرارة وتقل بزيادة السمك وكذلك حسبت الثوابت البصرية المتضمنة معامل الانكسار ومعامل الخمود وثابت العزل بجزئيه الحقيقي والخيالي كدالة للطول الموجي . وكذلك تم دراسة الخصائص الفوتوفولتائية المتضمنة قياس (سعة - جهد) للمدى Volt (0 - 1) عند تردد ثابت مقداره kHz (200) وتم من خلال هذه القياسات معرفة نوع المفرق الهجيني للخلية الشمسية (CdSe/Si) وتبين انه من النوع الحاد . وتم حساب جهد البناء الداخلي وقد لوحظ ان جهد البناء الداخلي يزداد بزيادة درجة حرارة التلدين والسمك وتم كذلك حساب عرض منطقة النضوب ووجد انها تقل بزيادة درجات حرارة التلدين وتزداد بزيادة السمك وكذلك لاحظنا ان السعة تقل بزيادة فولتية الانحياز العكسي , وايضا تقل بزيادة السمك لكن السعة تزداد بزيادة درجة حرارة التلدين . وعند قياس تيار - فولتية تحت ظروف الاضاءة للخلية الشمسية وجدنا ان كفاءة الخلية الشمسية(η) تزداد قيمهما بزيادة السمك وبزيادة درجة حرارة التلدين من 2.2 الى3.1ومن 2.2الى6.5 على التوالي وقد فسر سبب ذلك بوجود تغير في تركيب الاغشية وكذلك تحسن طبقة التداخل بين n - CdSe وp - Si.وحسبت كفاءة الخلية الشمسية وكانت افضل كفاءة (6.5%) عند سمك nm (500) ودرجة حرارة تلدين K (423) وشدة اضاءة mW/cm2 (69). | In this study , a solar cell (CdSe/Si) by DC Planar Sputtering Technique has been manufactured . CdSe films have been deposited on wafer of silicon prepared with different thicknesses (300,400 and 500) nm at different sputtering time equal to(30,45 and 60) min and distance is equal to 4cm under vacuum of 10 - 5 mbar and different annealing temperature (348,373 and 423) K .The effect of Argon gas pressures on plasma characterizations were studied such as : electron temperature Te, electrons density ne, ions density ni under different Argon gas pressures. It has been found that the electron temperature decreases with increasing Argon gas pressure. The electron density was found to increase with increasing argon gas pressure .The behavior of ions density was similar to that of the electrons, but their value was higher. The structural characteristic of the CdSe films prepared on glass substrates has been studied by using X - ray diffraction. The tests showed that all these films are polycrystalline, and their the structures, transformed to crystalline when the annealing temperature Ta increased . Optical properties of cadmium selenide films with different thicknesses are prepared on glass substrate are studied before and after annealing by measuring their spectral transmittance and absorbance as a function of wavelength. The results of the transmittance is very high, making it suitable for applications of solar cells. It was found that the transmittance increases with increasing of annealing temperature and decreases with increasing of thickness. It was found also that the absorbance decrease with increasing of annealing temperature and increases with increasing thickness at short wavelengths. It was noticed that the absorption coefficient of cadmium selenide gradually decrease with increasing of wavelength and annealing temperature, but decreases with increasing thickness. The value of absorption coefficient is greater than 104 cm - 1 , which refers to direct transition kind . Optical energy gaps of CdSe films were calculated for different thicknesses respectively. The energy gap increases with increasing temperature and decreases with increasing of thickness .The optical constants, refractive index , extinction coefficient and dielectric constant ( real and imaginary parts) as a function of wavelength were calculated as well .It was also studied the electrical and photovoltaic characteristics of these films including the measurement of the (capacity - voltage) at bias voltage (0 - 1) volt at constant frequency of (200) kHz. We observed that the type of heterojunction solar cell (CdSe/Si) was abrupt. Also we calculated the built - in potential and noticed that its values increase with increasing of annealing temperature and thickness. We also calculated the width of the depletion region and we found its values decrease with increasing of annealing temperature and increases with increasing thickness . It also noticed that the capacity decrease with increasing reverse bias voltage, and thickness but increases with increasing of annealing temperatures. The current - voltage characterization under illumination it was found that the efficiency (η) increase with increasing of the thickness and annealing temperatures from 2.2 to 3.1 and from 2.2 to 6.5 respectively , while increase with increasing of annealing temperatures due to the existence of change in the structure of films and the improve in the interface layer between n - CdSe and p - Si. The efficiency of the cell was calculated and its best value was (6.5%) at thickness (500) nm, annealing temperature (423)K and intensity of illumination (69 mW/cm2) .

Abstract: Titanium dioxide (TiO2) nanoparticles (NPs) have been widely investigated to employ in the paint fields due to its importance as pigments. Therefore, TiO2 particles are perfect candidates in the paint industry. In addition to use nanoparticles for enhancing the local coating properties in our country.In this work, the sol - gel technique employed to prepare TiO2 nanoparticles with two procedures and two precursors (TIP and TiCl4), the obtained two phases of TiO2 (anatase and rutile), nanopaticles colloid irradiated by pulse laser ablation (PLA) for minimizing particle size. It has been fabricated a laboratory paint (TiO2/SiO2 hybrid sol - gel). Nanoparticles characterization has been carried out by different devices to study properties such as morphology, structure and optical properties, Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) and Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS) demonstrated the size and shape of nanoparticles in the range of (3 - 40) nm spherical for anatase, while the rutile results were around (50 - 70) nm with ellipsoidal shape. Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), which was confirmed the results of TEM and DLS. Zeta - potential (ζ) results which were indicated the colloid stability, surface charge for the first procedure and the second procedure, anatse and rutile (+39.02, +25.68,+41.31 and+34.33) mV, respectively. The structural characteristics of TiO2 nano - powder investigated by X - ray Diffraction(XRD) to define the phases of TiO2, anatase at 500˚C , rutile at 900˚C, and Raman Spectroscopy to distinguish between crystalline phases, Raman shift resulted for anatase about (142.1,411.1,547.4 and 669.6) cm - 1, rutile (190,272,452 and 616) cm - 1. The optical properties measured by UV - Vis. Spectrophotometer to compute the energy band gap for both phases at (3.8 eV) for anatase and (3.4 eV) for rutile.The nanoparticles were mixed with coating solution (i.e. hybrid sol - gel and organosilicate nanoparticles (OSNP) in different concentrations (1%wt and 10%wt) for both anatase and rutile. Films were prepared by spin coating method which has been studied by the Energy Dispersive X - ray Spectroscopy (EDS) / Scanning Electron Microscope to define the components of concentrations, additionally, the films were studied the thickness and refractive index (n) by Spectroscopic Ellipsometry(SE) for nano - anatase (1%wt and10%wt) films thickness (128,382)nm and n equal (2.25,3.32), for nano - rutile films thickness (313.5,645.2) nm and n equal (2.5,2.8). Profilometer investigated the coating topography to demonstrate the Root Mean Square (RMS) toidentify the roughness which increased by increasing particle size. Fourier Transform Infrared (FTIR) analysis showed the strong bonds of the nanoparticles in frequency region between (400 - 1000) cm - 1 corresponds to Ti - O - Ti, also the bands at 793 and 1100cm - 1 were for a symmetric Si - O - Si stretching and vibration, respectively.Self - cleaning tests on the films were performed using Rhodamine B (RhB) as a pollution indicator. The effect of UV - irradiation on the films and contact angle measurements were studied. Anatase and rutile incorporated as a mixture with different ratios (1%.1.5% and 2%) in the local paint measurements, such as a washability and contrast test.Antibacterial activity in 10 - 5 and 10 - 3 TiO2 concentrations exhibited superior antibacterial activity with two types of bacteria, Escherichia coli (E - coli) and Staphylococcus aurous (S. aureus), respectively. TiO2 nanoparticles were more efficient as antibacterial agents with Staphylococcus aurous as compared with E - coli.
