Abstract:
ابدى الباحثون والمؤرخون العرب بوجه عام والعراقيين بوجه خاص، اهتماما ملحوظا في تاريخ الولايات المتحدة الامريكية الحديث والمعاصر، كونها اكبر دولة مؤثرة في العالم على كل المستويات، لذلك سلطت الاوساط الاكاديمية في الجامعات العراقية مجهودها بتوجيه طلابها للبحث في بداية النشاة حرصا منها على سد النقص في المعلومات المتعلقة في التاريخ الامريكي الحديث.
تاتي اهمية الموضوع كون فلوريدا اول مستعمرة امريكية، فقد استطاعت اولى الدول الاوروبية متمثلة باسبانيا من تاسيس مستعمرة في فلوريدا بهدف استغلال الاراضي والحصول على الثروات، علاوة على ان تكون تلك المستعمرة عسكرية قادرة على حماية الاساطيل الاسبانية المارة بامريكا الشمالية، وعلى الرغم من استكشاف فلوريدا كان عام 1513 على يد الاسباني خوان بونس دي ليون، الا ان تثبيت الاقدام كان عام 1565 بتاسيس مستعمرة القديس اوغسطين على يد الحاكم مينديز دي افيليس، نظرا لاهمية مستعمرة فلوريدا ولاهمية المرحلة التي تناولتها الدراسة، التي مثلت احد المراحل في تاريخ الولايات المتحدة الامريكية، فضلا عن عدم توفر دراسة اكاديمية خاصة بالموضوع بعد البحث في المكتبات العربية والعراقية، من هنا جاءت اهمية دراسة منذ اولى لحظات الاستكشاف الاسباني عام 1513، فضلا عن دافع الاستكشاف الذي كان اقتصادي الى حد كبير.
