Abstract: This thesis concerns itself with applying the theory of the American philosopher Charles Sanders Peirce on one particular type of the Qur’anic verses. That is, the universal verses, which involve references to a number of aspects of the universe i.e., Earth, Heavens, Stars, Seas, Wind, among others.The thesis focuses on the second triadic proposed by Peirce to interpret the Sign. This triadic studies the Sign in relation to its subject, which is embodied in three components. They are : Icon, Index, and Symbol.The thesis falls into an Introduction, three Chapters and a Conclusion. The Introduction deals with such important and pertinent issues as the semiology, its origin, formation and development, its definition, and the semiotic approaches utilized by scholars in both Arabic and Western heritages. The Introduction also sheds some light on the contemporary trends of semiology manifested in the works of the main two philosophers i.e., Ferdinand de Saussure and Charles Sanders Peirce. The main semiotic pillars of Peirce's theory (Sign, Semosis, and Interpretants) along with the main bases upon which the semiotic approach is established are dealt with in the Introduction as well. The first Chapter accounts for the Semiotic Icon of the Universal Qur’anic Verses. In which the Iconic Signs of these verses are tackled. This Chapter begins with an introduction highlighting nature of the Semiotic Icon, its types, and its place in Peirce's sign system.The second Chapter deals with the Semiotic Index of the Universal Qur’anic Verses. In which the Index Signs of these verses are accounted for. This Chapter starts with an introduction underlining nature of the Semiotic Index as proposed by Peirce.The third Chapter attends to the Semiotic Symbol of the Universal Qur’anic Verses. In which the Symbolic Signs of these verses are dealt with. This Chapter begins with an introduction underscoring nature of the Symbolic Sign, its types, its place in Peirce's semiotic theory, and the movement of its interpretants. The conclusion, however, summarizes the main ideas covered in the thesis along with the results arrived at by the present researcher. A list of the sources and references consulted in the study is presented at the end of the thesis.

Abstract: This study tackles the theme of the Poetics of the Narration in the Novels Hamid Al - Shabeeb. The study is subdivided into a Preface and three chapters. In the preface we studied the concept of poetics in narration and its meaning. Chapter One studies the levels of the peoticlangauein the novels of Hamid Al - Shabeeb tackling in the first inquiry the ideological level, in the second inquiry we studied the expression in the third inquiry we tackled the psychological level, the fourth inquiry we studied the narrative space. In Chapter Two we traced the poetics of time in three inquiries : the first is about the narrative of time, in the second inquiry we study the level of the duration (duration). The third inquiry is about the level of recurrence. The third inquiry follows the poetics of the place in the first inquiry includes the dimension of time and its types. He narrative place comes in the second inquiry.We included in the Conclusion the most important findings of the study : 1 - The concept of poetic language is the most accepted in the poetic language, because poetic language is more expressive and better in status. In addition to that it beaches the rules ofthe ordinary language. It also displaces it and reconstructs it again in new structural order. Poetic language composes the non - compassable.2 - Time includes recalling and foreseeing. Recalling is the process of remembering the incidents from the past and calling them to the represent time by the similar to these events. The foreseeing means anticipating the future. Maybe this is related to dreams sprang from optimism and excitement.3 - For the place and its importance as far as the novel is concerned. Place includes the closed space and the open space. There is also the realistic place and the imaginary place in the novel. In the end of the dissertation were listed a list of the references and resources and an abstract in English.

Abstract: This study is an attempt to investigate; the originality of the voiced Arabic articulation in the writings of the orientalists, linguist and nonlinguists. The study reveals their opinions and assesses the phonetic theory of the ancient Arab scholars. It aims at the finding out the scattered works in one unified study to fill the gap in the Arabic phonetic system. The study is divided into four chapters after an introduction and a preface. In the Preface, the general meaning of orientalism, its beginning, objectives, and the methods applied in the study of Arabic phonetics. Chapter One tackles the early writings of linguistics of orientalists, and the sources of the linguistic orientalism in which I displayed the most important writings of the orientalism (dialicism), syntactical and inflectional and the comparative linguistics. The chapter also studies the most important phonetic entries which orientalists tackled. Chapter Two studies in two inquiries the definition of the sound and the manner of articulation. The first inquiry studies the mechanism of articulation and the organs involved in sound production. The second inquiry studies the sound outputs, their number for the ancient and modernists scholars. Chapter Three includes the features of Arabic sources in the studies of the orientalists, and the basis on which they depended in the categorization in the light of modern phonetics. Chapter Four is devoted to the study of the Arabic vowels in the orientalists studies, in which the concept of vowel and the reasons of preferring the vowels for some of the concepts used by the Arab scholars used and followed by the orientalists to express the vowels. The research tackled the various phonetics like the concept of accents) diacritical marks), the number of vowels and their articulation. The Chapter also includes the subsidiary emphatic pronunciation. The dissertation a concluded the most important finding of the study, suggestions and names of the prominent orientalists whose names were mentioned.
