Abstract:
The present study is carried out to assess the suitability of ground water in Semel region / Duhok governorate .Eight deep wells were selected of various activities : Agricultural , industrial and residential , water evaluated chemically , physically and Biologically for the period from November 2015 to February 2016 . Results revealed significant monthly variation in the water quality with location .The study includedthe chemical analysis of basic cations like the Calicium Ca+2 , magnesium Mg+2 , Sodium Na+ , Potassium K+ and basic anions like Bicarbonate HCO - 3 , Sulphate SO4 - 2 , Chloride CI - , Nitrate NO - 3 in addition to phosphate PO4 - . The physical tests like the temperature of water, range between (18 - 22.7) C , the air temperature which ranged between (6 - 21) C , the electric conductivity ranged between (773.9 - 1492.5) Ms/cm and the turbidity ranged between (0.06 - 2) N.T.U.The total dissolved solids were calculated which ranged between (495.3 - 976.4) mg/l .In addition to bacteriological tests like the total acount of Coliform bacteria and total account of fecal bacterial which indicated that there was a pollution in wells (1,2) . The groundwater was classified by Piper classification which indicated that the chemical type of wells water Bicarbonate - sulphate.For Civilian uses comparison is carried out with WHOguide 2007 , which is recommended used by Iraqi Ministry of Environment 2001 , to assess the suitability of water for human use .Several Classifications were employed which indicated that the well water is very good for animal consumption , agriculture , according to SAR value , the water was classified as (S1) , while according to electric conductivity , it was classified as (C3) .
