المستخلص: The grammatical schools subject is one of the important topics in the history of the Arabic grammar. This subject was already dealt with by the ancient Arabic writers beside those interested in the eastern matters who wrote on the basis of what the ancient writers thought. The number of such schools was only guessed at without the necessary academic authority. The modern writers, however, examined the opinions of their predecessors. Therefore, their observations only resulted into different opinions that they came to classify the grammatical schools into five : Basrhia, Kufia, Baghdadia, Andlusia, and Massria. While others, classify the grammatical schools into two : Basrhia school and Kufia school. whereas few others did not consider but only the so - called Basrhia. The contemporary writers concerned with the history of such schools, shed light on their bases, their founders, and show the difference among those schools. The present study sheds light on the grammatical schools written by the contemporary linguists who dealt with the history of those schools, their methods in studying grammar and linguistics and the diversity among them. However, the present study deals with the following books : 1. AL - Kufa School and its Strategy in Studying Grammar and Linguistics. by Dr. Mahdi AL - Makzwmi.2. The Grammatical Schools. by Dr. Shawki Deif.3. AL - Basraha Grammatical School : its Foundation and Development. by Dr. Abdul Rahman AL - Seid.4. The Grammatical Lesson in Baghdad. by Dr. Mahdi AL - Makzwmi.5. Lessons in the Grammatical Models. by Dr. Abda AL - Rajehi.6. The Grammatical School in Egypt and Syria During the Seventh and Eighth Higri Centuries. by Dr. Abdul Aaal Salem Mukram.7. The characteristics of Al - Andales grammatical model during the seventh century. by Abd Al - Khadir Raheem Al - Hieti.8. The Grammatical schools. by Dr. Khadega AL - Hadiethi.9. Baghdad School in the History of the Arabic Grammar. by Dr. Mahmood Husny Mahmood.10. The Grammatical School : Alegend and Actuality. by Dr. Ibrahim AL - Samara,y.11. The Grammatical School Among Fantasy, Perception and the Big Question. by Dr. Abdul Amir AL - Ward.12. Baghdad and the Grammatical Lesson. by Dr. Khadega AL - Hadithi. The present study fulls into : abstract, introduction and three chapters. The abstract for the fields and scope of the study while the introduction focused on the foundation of the Arabic grammar, its founders, motives and originality. Chapter one accounted for the so - called “Mathhab” or “School” in the hands of researchers, and chapter two gave a general scope of the studied schools. Chapter three concerned with showing an analysis of the books written within the grammatical schools. However, it is divided into two sections : Section one dealt with the strategy of the authors with in the scope of the grammatical schools. Section two dealt with a study of the grammatical school books and showed the balance involved. However, the study reached at the following conclusions : 1. The founder of the Arabic grammar was Abu - AL - Aswad AL - Da ,lly (69, Higri) and the motives of its foundation could be accounted for in terms of various factors : religious factor, national, political and social.2. Various terms are used to refer to the so - called “Mathhab” or “School”. They are different terms but they preserve the same meaning, therefore it is better to stielc to the so - called “Mathhab”. 3. In terms of the so - called “Mathhab”, two among which are only admitted : AL - Bashri and AL - Kufi only

المستخلص: Most of the Abbaside era Maqamat were based on a bitter irony out of a painful and a tragic reality that is full of contradictions and change of standards and values. Axiomatically they had a lot of instances of irony for it is the most suitable among artistic styles. It was , there fore , adopted by Maqamat writers as the artistic styles through which they expressed their suffering and boredom ; it had been a reflection of the time they lived. For them , irony was a defensive means for facing the cruelty , deprivation and misery in their lives ; a purification means , so to say , that would eliminate the deposits of dreadful ideas and would relieve the strains of poverty and need deep inside them. The irony of the Abbaside Era Maqamat is of three main types : 1. Verbal irony : it includes anti expectation , pedantry equivocation , pun , simile and quotation. 2. Irony of situation : it includes the self uncovering , dramatically and event irony. 3. Narrative irony : it includes spatial and temporal , the narrator - hero and the secondary characters irony. These three main types make up the three chapter of the this study , with each chapter being devoted to one type preceded by an introduction that illuminates the lexical and terminological meanings of "Maqama" and "Irony" and also the nature , importance , motives and aims of each one of them. All that followed by a conclusion that sums up the findings arrived at and most important of which are the following : 1. Maqama is a dramatized story that combines the techniques of both fiction and drama. It both narrates and displays ideas. It is based on a dramatic scene with action and dialogue , a matter which tints it with vitality and excitement that it has been an impressive type of art up to the present time. 2. Linguistic irony is produced by one signifier leading to two or more signified ideas. It , then , enables us to practice a multi - reading criticism because it deepens the text , extends its interpretative limits and widens its horizons. 3. The irony of situation embodied the suffering of the Maqamat writers that their Maqamat seemed to be a reverberation of what they lived and co - lived and what they thought and felt. The irony was their outlet to steam off and express their attitudes towards their surroundings. 4. Time and place in the Abbaside Era Maqamat where open. The characters moved about in absolute time and place. That is to generalize the purpose - idea and indicate that it is likely to happen at any time and place and to implicitly indicate the bad conditions and corruption. 5. The narrator in Abbaside Maqamat is an observer who seldom takes part in the events unlike the hero who undertakes the creation and activation of events and through whom the writer pictures what he wants to deliver. Most likely , the narrator represents the writer , whereas the hero represents the socially , politically and ideologically oppressed class
