Abstract:
Air temperature is considered of the important air elements because of its wide effects on the climate variables and climate system, It is also one of the factors that effects on the human life, that is evidence of the climate system changing because of the possibility of calculating this variable of both sides temporal and spatial; therefore this study came to describe Baghdad climate using maximum and minimum temperatures and to check changes existing in this factor specifically in Summer season. This thesis adopted on available climate data of Iraqi Meteorological Organization And Seismology (IMOS) to maximum and minimum temperatures for 44 years from 1970 to 2013 for Baghdad city, the average monthly, seasonal and annual were calculated from its daily data. Anomilies from the average for the maximum and minimum temperature for each month was also calculated and was analyzed and discussed to identify the main characteristics for Summer season, and showing the changes happen on it and check whether there are other months gained some Summer characteristics. The results showed that the general trend for the temperatures increased from the general rates in spite of variations of these rates, and the study anomalies of the monthly values of maximum and minimum temperatures showed that there is a random fluctuation of these values in Summer in Baghdad city, where indicated that the biggest increasing was of the minimum temperatures compared with the maximum temperatures where they found a rate of 1 degree for per decade, an average 4 degree during the study period (1970 - 2013). About maximum temperature was a rate of 0.5 with average of 2 degree. The second part of the study depended on the idea of dividing the period of study into four periods, each one consist of 11 years to find characteristic period. The third one which is between (1992 - 2002) is distinguished, there is greatest tendency of maximum and minimum temperature. That means nineties was the warmest decay during study period according to the seasonal scale of Baghdad city, it also refers to that the greatest increasing of maximum and minimum temperature happens in Summer months and transitional months nearby (May and September) so May had characters approaching to strong Summer features for the maximum temperature than of Spring as well September is near to Summer morethan to Autumn for the minimum temperatures. The results also proved that Summer in Baghdad was homogeneous in 70% of study period of maximum temperature and 73% of minimum temperatures and it prevailing status, while feature not homogeneous was 30% of study period of maximum temperature and 27% of minimum temperature, that refers to Summer characteristics is not constant during all study years. The last part of research is comparison data from Iraqi Meteorological Organization and Seismology (IMOS) with data from European Center for Medium Weather Forecasting (ECMWF), but for a limited period (for 15 years) (1979 - 1993). The results show to the existence clear difference between the two types of data of IMOS and ECMWF where the difference ranges between one degree to nine degree, this for the maximum temperatures. As for the minimum temperatures the difference between one degree to six degree.
