The main theme of this thesis is oriented toward three objectives : The first objective is to study the application of wavelet transform in numerical analysis and solving partial differential equations. The second objective is to find the numerical solution for the one - dimensional heat equation using Chebyshev wavelets tau method, the problem under the proposed technique is reduced to the solution of a system of linear algebraic equations. Also, the solution obtained by this approach is tested by some illustrative examples and the efficiency of the proposed modified method is confirmed through several numerical examples. The third objective is to show, the accuracy for the wavelet transform solution obtained rather than implementing the well - known Fourier transform.
