Abstract:
The transportation inside the cities plays a very important role in the effectiveness and completeness among its combination as it is system made for moving individuals , goods and its necessary facilities. With the increasing development ,seen in the growth of cities, has become bigger , return there has been some issues which effect negative on the level of services of transportation.the modern states tended to rely on the strategies of organization and controlling the transportation and create diversity in its pattern, introducing intelligent transportation system like (ITS) and modern system ,relying on the coordination with related technologies, connected with both the information system and the devices of traffic control and the communication and data base and computer systems run by a technical system, specialized in this field and work to increase its function capacity and improving the level of movement in the transportation system minimizing the environmental effects which in return will provide a perfect transportation , sustainable with the suggest modern systems. Research problem is the increase in population and the development of activities leading to increase the number of day trips, and the absence of efficient and sophisticated systems and means of control and regulation of transport and traffic led to the deterioration of the transportation system in Baghdad. The research aims to identify the most modern and developed of intelligent systems for the transfer of technologies and the most important urban applications, stand toward the importance and impact ofpublished for the first time in the city of Baghdad, and to identify the most important applied in intelligent transportation sector international experience, and to develop indicators that can contribute to solving transportation problems in the city Baghdad Research Hypothesis over the possible application of intelligent systems for transport in the city of Baghdad, and that its application will contribute to the organization of transport and traffic, and providing forecasts in the transport sector, thus facilitating theprocess of simulating transport problems in the city of Baghdad toward finding solutions, and the sustainability of those solutions through observation and tracking The research studies the intelligent transportation systems in the field modern the research has concentrated on three axes The first axe is about choosing one sector of Baghdad (K.Z )(which suffers from multiple traffic and transportation problems)in order to test whether the application is possible.The second axe is that the field surveys on the traffic volume(VPH) has been made on the streets ,located on (22) intersections and areas meant to be studied in this field , especially at the nocturnal and diurnal rush hour of (September, November, December 2015). This survey has been made in order to measure how volume dense is the traffic and to compare the mentioned ,traffic volume density with the necessity of applying these intelligent systems.Also the traffic statistics in the street has been analyzed to extract the level of services(LOS) by using the program (HCS2010)check the level of achieving of outspreading of these systems, which determines that the level of services has to be at C level or at least lower that this level during most of the daytime ,not the extraction of the Average Annual Daily Traffic (AADT)which n its turn it is regarded the third condition of necessity of applying the intelligent transportation system.Thus the result (VPH , LOS, and AADT)have been compared with the rules of applying the system of(VMS,CCTV,TSS)to determine which streets need these intelligent systems to be installed on, when comparing the results of the streets in which possibility of the deployment of intelligent systems with the total number of streets in the study area was reached that (83%) from the streets of the study area where the conditions for the deployment of intelligent transport systems available.As for the third axe it has been measured the effectiveness of applying the intelligent transportation system on how effective they are on minimizing the traffic jam in streets and improving the level of its services in the streets According to the index, which determines the rate of reducing congestion (35%) in ways that apply system (CCTV, VMS) When applying this index on the volumes of traffic on the streets of the study area has been reachedto improve service levels to the level of service (C) and best for (13) Street by (28%) of the total area of the streets And in general it has been found to improve service levels for all the streets of the study area to the best levels in the case of the application of intelligent systems. Except for the presence of only two streets where the level of service ((LOS at (F)) (4%) of the total study area streets before and after the Application of Intelligent Transport Systems.
