Abstract: استهدفت الدراسة الكشف عن مضامين الاساطير العراقية والدلالات الرمزية الاسطورية التي استلهمت في النحت العراقي المعاصر. وهي في اربعة فصول خصص الاول منها الى الاطار المنهجي، الذي شمل مشكلة البحث واهميته وحدوده واهدافه، ثم تحديد لاهم المصطلحات فيه. والفصل الث | This study aimed to know and learn about the contemporary Iraqi sculpture Which inspired by Iraqi legends. and to study these sculptural pieces of art.The study contains four chapters : First chapter explains the importance and need for the study and also it's objectives and scope. The researcher define some important expressions and term used in the study. Second chapter consists four sections : Section one studies the concept of the legend and it's causes of emergence and discusses the relation between and superstitions. Section two study Iraqi legend according to historical periods. The researcher here divides it into tow groups : 1 - Ancient legends.2 - Legends before and after Islam.Section three discusses the relation between legend and sculpture, some examples of sculptural pieces of art relating to some important ancient cultures were also mentioned with a brief presentation of the history of Iraqi sculpture and the effect of legend on it. Section four about the contemporary Iraqi sculpture Chapter three begins in collecting information and photographs about Iraqi sculptural pieces of art which are basically inspired by legends after this scanning of the materialistic evidence of the research was done starting with first work finished in 1950 until the end of 1992. The total number of works was 63 pieces created by 12 Iraqi contemporary sculptures. The researcher selected 20 works out of the whole as specimen for study, and the conclusion he reached resemble direct answers to the objectives of the study, and was introduced together with suggestions and recommendations in chapter four. About the first aimed , there are 63 sculpture works inspired by legends, done by 12 Iraqi sculpture. The number of sculpture works inspired by legend of the first group (ancient Iraqi legend) is 48 sculpture works. And there are 13 pieces sculpture works taken from Iraqi legends of the second group most of them taken from the tales of (thousand nights and night).
