Abstract:
Syntactic Thinking in Alnihaya fi Sharh Elkifaya by Ibn Khabbaz Elmousili (b.639 H.) is the title of the present thesis. I chose to study the syntactic thinking in one of the most astound scholars of Mosul in the fifth Hijri century. With regard of the topic of the study, it comprises three chapters, preceded by a preface and introduction, and followed by a conclusion and a list of sources and references. The preface is subdivided into two sections; the first is entitled "The Concept of Syntactic Thinking among Arabs" which deals with the starting points of the emergence of syntactic thinking, while the second which is entitled "Ibn Elkhabbaz's Biography and Works" briefly tackles the life of Ibn Elkhabbaz, his tutors, students and publications. The first chapter of the thesis is entitled "Ibn Elkhabbaz's Approach and Scientific Sources in His Alnihaya fi Sharh Elkifaya". The chapter is divided into two sections; the first studies his approach in his book, while the second concentrates on the scientific sources he relied on when writing his book. Chapter two, "Syntactic Evidence in Elnihaya by Ibn Elkhabbaz", is once more split into two sections. Section one is dedicated to unwritten evidence, and the second to intellectual evidence, showing how great was Ibn Elkhabbaz's interest in them. The third chapter is entitled "Ibn Elkhabbaz's Point of View Concerning Syntactic Differences between Basra and Kofa Grammarians and His Genuine Issues", as he has set a number of genuine issues not specified before him. The study concludes that Ibn Elkhabbaz is an eminent grammarian who paid due attention to all fundaments of grammar, and who has many great publications in Arabic Syntax as he had distinguished influence on his successors. Moreover, I included a various number of grammar, linguistics, and literature books in my thesis.
