Abstract:
This work includes two parts : 1. Synthesis and identification of some new antimony (III) complexes by thereaction of antimony trichloride with the ligands methotrexate (L1) and benzothiazole (L2) in the mole ratio of 1 : 1 and 1 : 2 ( M : L).The new compounds were characterized by means of FTIR, UV, CHNS analysis and atomic absorption, in addition to some of physical properties (color and melting point) . These analysis showed that the Sb is bonding with oxygen of carbonyl (C=O) in the amide group of the methotrexate (MTX), while with nitrogen atom of benzothiazole (BZT) . According to the data obtaind from these analysis, the suggested structure for the complexes is trigonal bipyramide (Tbp) .2. Cytotoxicity evaluation of these compounds against cancer cell line .The new compounds and the starting materials were used to evaluate their cytotoxic effect in the different concentrations of ( 10, 8, 6, 4, 2 and 1 μg/ml) for each against Hela and Rhabdomyosarcoma cell lines. The results showed thatall these compounds are highly effective in inhibition of tumor cell line growth (Hela and Rhabdomyosarcoma ) .The highest values for inhibition agains Hela and Rhabdomyosarcoma cell line were 73% and 88% in the case of Sb - benzothiazole complexes respectively. Comparing the results of the new complexes with those of the starting materials , it is very obvious that they are much higher in their effectiveness due to the synergestic effect of antimony with Methotrexate and Benzothiazole since they are themselves were effective against cancer
