Abstract:
Pragmatics is considered as one of the new branches of linguistics in which the linguists have found new trends of research. The importance of the present study comes from the idea of linking the new trends in linguistics with the Arabic tradition. Also, there is no pragmatic study conducted on this important book "Ma'any Al - Quran". This would enrich the Arabic libraries of new studies with modern conceptions so as to study the traditional books with modern methods of research. The present study is composed of four chapters and conclusions, in which the researcher has adopted the pragmatic, Analytical, descriptive, and historical methods of Analysis. It has depended on several important sources and bibliographies both traditional and modern like Sebawah's book, Al - Muqtathab for Al - Mubarad, A. H. Al - Shahry's Strategies of Discourse, and M. A. Nahla's New Trends of Modern Linguistic Research.Chapter one discusses the indications in all its types. It is composed of three sections : section one dealt with the sensory indications and how could the addresser point out to himself to interact with the addressee what he wants to say. The second section is dealing with the mental indications that the addressee could understand by his mental ability. While the last section dealt with temporal and spatial indications. Chapter Two discusses the rules of spoken discourse. It contains two sections : the first section previewed the Gricean maxims of cooperative conversation and the conversational restrictions. The second section talks about what is included within speech of hidden meaning and the shared knowledge.Chapter Three is entitled "Speech Act". It includes two sections : the first one discusses Austin's classification of the direct Speech acts, while the second section dealt with Searle's theory of indirect speech acts. The fourth chapter was devoted to the Arguments. It is divided into three sections : the first section is devoted to the argumentative connections. The second section dealt with the elements of argument, while the last section dealt with the way of arranging arguments to reach the result. The present study has concluded some important conclusions : Al - Nahas has referred to vagueness and considered it as an indication of two types : mental and sensory indications. Al - Nahas was aware about the strategies of conversations or what is called in the modern terminology as cooperative principles. He dealt with the speech acts on the base of what it accomplishes. The arguments were very powerful in the book of Al - Nahas
