Abstract:
Complex systems researches has become more important than ever in both natural and social sciences, because the idea of the complexity became part of a new unified framework for all sciences. the urban growth is one of the intrinsic examples of organized complexity, it is highly complex phenomena. A search in the previous studies shows a need to detect the properties and behavior of urban growth system which shares it out with other complex systems. From here originated the idea of the research, based on the urban growth is a complex system based on the behavior of emergence and self - organization and that these behaviors reflected the emergence of new urban centers, for example Edge cities in the United States, hence the search goal was (building a theoretical framework for urban growth as a complex system and the impact of his behavior in the emergence of edge cities and finding indicators emerging centers, and testing of these indicators on one of the cities the outskirts of the city of Baghdad) and thus coined Find research his problem (The need for a clear depiction of the complexity in urban growth and the role of the complexity in emergence a new urban centers) hypothesis (edge cities, is the new urban center emerged as a result of the complexity in urban growth system (. The theoretical part reviews the complex systems concepts, urban growth as a complex system and edge cities phenomenon in the United States, then extracted important vocabulary of theoretical part to formulate indicators for the mother city and indicators for the emerging urban centers. The field study included three main axes, the first axis relates to Baghdad, while the second axis relates to of Mahmudiyah either in the third axis relates to conclusions which including : - a. City historically has been associated with the mix of ideas and ideologies in sciences.b. Complexity characteristic of systems including urban growth system, it takes other complex systems behavior as self - organization, emergence and growth from lower levels to the higher levels, which passes through three stages, a continuity , transformation and emergence.c. Edge cities is a new urban centers formed upon the arrival of urban growth of metropolitan cities to the emergence stage.The recommendations were addressed to researchers , specialists and planners to be a little closer to the true reality of ways that grow out of cities and ways to be developed, by realization that city offers a spectacle of complexity, and following principle of planning based a few interventions and large effects by following the decentralization policy with activation the role of public participation and need to take advantage of international experiences in this field.
