Abstract:
In addition to that, soccer referees undergo many physical fitness tests for promotion reasons thus he should always be prepared physical and to pass the tests successfully. Usually, the tests are directly related to the nature of performance during matches where referees perform great physical effort and he should resist fatigue that could cloud his judgment. The importance of the study lies in developing the physical fitness demands of soccer referees using standardized fartlek training because it highly resembles the referee's performance during any soccer match. These fartlek exercises require running in different speeds, directions and distances intervened with walking and jogging periods. The Problem of the study is that the researcher noticed that Iraqi soccer referees suffer from a great lack of physical fitness that qualifies them to lead a match. This fact is one of the many reasons soccer is not developing. Referees also find it hard to pass the physical fitness test that in 2008 - 2009 many referees failed to pass these tests for many times. The Aims of The Study : 1. The effect of fartlek training on the development of some special physical abilities of soccer referees.2. The effect of Fartlek training on passing physical fitness tests for soccer referees. The Hypotheses of The Study : 1. There are significant differenced between pre and posttests for the experimental group in the variables of the study and in favor of posttests. 2. There are significant statistical differences between pre and posttests for the controlling group in the variables of the study and in favor of posttests. 3. There are significant statistical differences in the posttests of the experimental and controlling groups in the physical fitness tests for soccer referees.4. There are significant statistical differences in the posttests of the experimental and controlling groups in favor of the experimental group in passing the physical fitness tests for soccer referees. The Procedures : The researcher used the experimental method. The subjects were (16) second degree soccer referees from Baghdad of the season 2008 - 2009. A pilot study was conducted followed by the pretests. The training program was then applied for 8 weeks with 3 training session per week followed by posttest and statistical analysis. Conclusions : 1. There is a positive effect between pre and posttests in the controlling group and in favor of the posttests in the level of some special physical abilities understudy.2. Fartlek training has developed the level of physical abilities for the experimental group. The results showed significant differences between per and posttest in favor of posttest which indicates the effect of Fartlek training the researcher used.3. The results of physical fitness tests that the researcher used as an indicator for measuring the ability to endure speed, showed a great development in the subjects' levels after using Fartlek training compared to the controlling group. 4. Using Fartlek training developed the experimental group better than the controlling group in the physical abilities understudy.5. Developing the referees' abilities gave them good physical fitness that they could perform during matches without excessive fatigue as well as passing the physical fitness test.Recommendations : 1. The necessity of using Fartlek training in training referees to develop their speed and endurance which are the most important physical abilities that referees should have to pass the physical fitness test. 2. The Central Iraqi Federation should support all scientific researches that can develop this game even the ones that are dedicated for referees.3. Depending on physical fitness instructors to train referees so that referees can be able to pass the physical fitness test without difficulty.4. Making simir studies about Fartlek training to develop the physical abilities of all sports whether individual or team sports.
