Abstract: The present work involved the synthesis, characterization and biological evaluation of some transition metal complexes with new Schiff bases derived from 6 - methyl - quinoxaline - 2,3(1H,4H) - dione [A1] and pyrido[2,3 - b]pyrazine - 2,3(1H,4H) - dione[A2] up on ndensation with diethylenetriamine, urea and thiosemicarbazide respectively : - The new Schiff bases L1, HL2 and H2L3 were prepared as below 1 - L1=(3Z,3'Z) - 3,3' - ((azanediylbis(ethane - 2,1 - (diyl))bis(azanylylidene))bis(6 - methyl - 3,4 - dihydroquinoxalin - 2(1H) - one. was prepared by condensation of two moles of 6 - methyl - quinoxaline - 2,3(1H,4H) - dione [A1] with one mole of diethylenetriamine in acidic medium.2 - HL2 was prepared by condensation of equimolar ratios of urea and pyrido[2,3 - b]pyrazine - 2,3(1H,4H) - dione [A2] in acidic medium. 3 - H2L3=(Z) - 2 - (2 - oxo - 1,2 - dihydropyrido[2,3 - b]pyrazin - 3(4H) - ylidene)hydrazinecarbothioamide was prepared by the condensation of thiosemicarbazide with pyrido[2,3 - b]pyrazine - 2,3(1H,4H) - dione [A2],in equal mole ratio 4 - The metal complexes of Cr(III),Mn(II),Co(II),Ni(II),Cu(II) and Zn(II) with the Schiff bases L1, HL2 and H2L3 were prepared by direct reactions of their hydrated metal chlorides with the ligands in 1 : 1 molar ra????o (L : M) for L1 and H2L3 and 2 : 1 (L : M) molar ra????os for HL2 respectively. The prepared Schiff bases [L1,HL2 and H2L3] were characterized on the basis of micro - elemental analyses (C.H.N.S.) ,mass spectra, 13C NMR,FTIR and UV - spectra .The metal complexes were identified after isolation in solid state by elemental analyses(CHNS),flame atomic absorption spectroscopy, FTIR,UV - Visible spectra as well as the magnetic susceptibility and electrical molar conductivity measurements. The results obtained revealed that all complexes formed with L1 Schiff base were octahedral structure in the general formula : - [ML(H2O)]Cl2.H2O,where M=Mn(II),Co(II),Ni(II),Cu(II) and Zn(II) and[CrL1Cl]Cl.H2O while the metal complexes formed with HL2 Schiff base were octahedral geometry in the general formula [M(L2)2(H2O)2]where M=Mn(II),Co(II),Cr(III) ,Cu(II) and Zn(II) exceptnickel(II) complex which was square planner of [Ni(L2)2] formula.Furthermore, the tetrahedral geometry was proposed for Mn(II),Co(II),Ni(II),Cu(II) and Zn(II) complexes formed with H2L3 Schiff base in 1 : 1 mole ra????o with [ML3(H2O)]where M=Mn(II),Co(II),Ni(II),Cu(II) and Zn(II) formula except the chromium(III) complex was octahedral in[CrL3(H2O)2Cl] formula. As well as, the work involved study the in biological activity of the prepared Schiff bases and their metal complexes in DMSO solutions in 10 - 20 μg/ml. against two kinds o f bacteria ,positive gram staphylococcus aureus and negative gram Escerichia Coli and two fungi that were Aspergillus flavus and Candida albicans by using Agar diffusion method.
