Abstract: lack of adaptation,rather, the way people think is causing a lack of proper adaptation,So the individual is responsible for adapting,Since the lack of adjustment leads to isolation and with drawal ,It is the thoughts of the individual that cause the state of non - adaptation,When an individual begins to modify his thoughts, it helps to adapt to the environment in which he lives.Poor adjustment leads to negative results due to exaggerated and distorted thinking ..An individual feels frustrated and uncoordinated when things do not come as he expected .Poor adjustment results in illogical expectations.It is the individual's way of thinking that determines how he adapts. When he thinks about events in a positive way, this will reflect his temperament and level of adaptation. False thinking leads to a disturbance of the mood of the individual, and low level of adaptation and compatibility, where the thinking is increasingly catastrophic in cases of loss, especially the loss of one of the parents where the individual feels loss of safety and tenderness so feel of the pain may last for a long time.The importance of the study was demonstrated by the interest of an important segment of the societyuniversity students who have lost a parent. The aim of the study was to identify : 1 - the disastrous thinking of university students who have lost one of the parents.2 - The significance of the differences in the catastrophic thinking among university students who lost one of the parents at the level of significance (0.05) according to the variables : - Type (Boys - Girls( - Specialization (Scientific - Academic)3 - psychological Grief of university students who lost one of the parents.4 - the significance of differences in psychological distress among university students who lost one of the parents at the level of significance (0.05) according to the variables : - Type (Boys - Girls( - Specialization (Scientific - Academic)5 - The relationship between the catastrophic thinking and psychological Grief of university students who lost one of the parents.In order to achieve the objectives of the research, the researcher constructed two measures : The first includes the measurement of catastrophic thinking where the researcher relied on Beck's theory(1987, Beck) and its theoretical premise in describing catastrophic thinking, she identified two areas (negative perceptions, anticipating risks, "calamities").Which consists of (24) paragraphs extracted the psychometric properties of the paragraphs and the scale as a whole, And the second to measure the psychological distress in which it relied on the theory of Warden (Worden,1987)And its theoretical premise in the description of psychological distress where it identified four areas (Cognitive, emotional, social, physical / health) Consisting of (38) paragraphs extracted the psychometric characteristics of the paragraphs and the scale as a whole.And then applied to a sample consisting of (614) students who represented the community of students of Karbala University who lost one of the parents. After collecting the data and statistical analysis using the statistical package of social sciences (spss), the researcher used a number of statistical means : Square Kay (Ka2),T - Test for two independent samples, Pearson correlation coefficient, Spurman Brown's corrective equation, Vaccrombach equation, Center - medium - vein - deviation - variance - flattening - torsion, T - Test forone sample, Analysis of binary contrast, Schiffe test for comparisons).The current study reached the following results : 1 - The sample has a catastrophic thinking and also has psychological distress.2_ There are statistically significant differences in gender in favor of female students with catastrophic thinking and psychological distress.3_ There are statistically significant differences in the (scientific and human) specialization where human competence is the most common in the catastrophic thinking and psychological distress In comparison with the scientific specialization.4.
