Abstract:
استحوذت الحلي على رغبات شرائح واسعة من الناس في العالم، وفي العراق كانت الحلي ولم تزل من المتطلبات الاساسية الهامة في حياة النساء فهي تعكس الجوانب الاجتماعية والاقتصادية وهي دليل على ثراء ومكانة مرتديها. لعب وزن الحلية ومقدار قيراطها دورا مهما في تصاميمه | Jewelry design in the world has occupied a considerable part of population's interest. In Iraq, jewelry was and is still a necessary and important requirement of women's life. Jewelry reflects the economic and social aspects of life and people. It is an evidence of richness as well as social prestige. Metal weight and carat plays and important role in quality of goldsmithery and jewelry design. Further, precious stones play a remarkable part in both the type of design and the value of the ornaments Moreover; metal coloration has its effect in showing the aesthetic aspect of metal, and is used as an element to enhance the impact of the jewelry design.The use of enamel in jewelry coloring has played an important role, and has its stature on both gold and silver jewelry. The study lies in five chapters and deals with both design & techniques of the contemporary jewelry in Iraqi, focusing on the precious metal and gem jewelry. It has two goals : 1 - Identifying the bases used by the designers to create the shapes used in contemporary jewelry design. 2 - Clarifying the techniques employed by contemporary jewelry designers in Iraq.The most important findings of the research are. As for the first goal, it is found that : 1 - Iraqi Contemporary Jewelries are usually made of gold and silver, platinum is not used. 2 - Iraqi designers fall under the impact of cultural and economic factors. 3 - The continuous use of (Mina) in gold and silver jewelry coloring. 4 - the large use of geometrical shapes and designs. 5 - Designers used symbols, especially those derived from religious believe.As for the second goal : 1 - The use of several techniques in the jewelry making such as different types of casting, cutting, wilding, forging, drawing, pressing, rounding, bending, punching, rolling and other modern techniques. 2 - In decorating valuable metals (gold and silver), the designers used the techniques of sanding, perforating and filigree. Examples of designs and techniques employed are shown in color plates
