Abstract: The present study aimed to investigate the , morphological description and histological structure of oesophagus in Iraq black partridge (Francolinus francolinus ) and white breasted kingfisher (Halcyon smyrnensis) ,the results revealed the following : - Morphological Description• In both birds the oesophagus was long muscular tube, thin - walled and distensible tube , it was situated between the oropharynx cavity and Proventriculus .• The oesophagus in Iraq black partridge (Ibp) divided into the three regions represented by anterior part (Cervical), median part (Crop) and posterior part (thoracic),while in white breasted kingfisher (Wbk) divided in two regions , anterior part (Cervical) and posterior part (thoracic), because the crop was absent in this bird so that we suggested to regard the median part instead the crop which is found in Iraqi block partridge.• In both birds , the anterior part ( Cervical ) of oesophagus was located in the midline , dorsally to the larynx and trachea , which was fixed byconnective tissue . In the median part of neck , the oesophagus location was changed where it was situated at the right side of the midline , among trachea laterally and Jugular vein , the vagus nerve and thymus dorsally . In (Wbk) , the oesophagus was curved littleness on the right side of midline in contrast to the (Ibp).• In (Ibp) , immediately in the thoracic entrance , the oesophagus returns to the midline and it expanded ventrally pouch , (the crop) which located between clavicle and breast muscles . The internal and external surface of the crop presented irregular folds.• In (Ibp), the anterior part of oesophagus ( Cervical) taken an (S) shaped due to it was longer than its neck region.• In both , the posterior part of oesophagus (thoracic) entered thoracic region and then located dorsally to the trachea , syrinx and heart, ventrally to the lung. Finally, the posterior part of oesophagus(thoracic) opened in to the Proventriculus .• In both birds , the anterior part of oesophagus ( cervical) was longer than posterior part ( thoracic). The internal surface of the oesophagus demarcated longitudinal folds .Histological Study : • The results of the present study showed that the oesophagus wall in (Ibp) consisted of four tunica represented by mucosa, sub mucosa, Muscularis and adventitia or serosa while in (Wbk) composed of three tunica because due to lack the sub mucosa.• Tunica mucosa in (Ibp) oesophagus consisted of three layers represented by lining epithelium , lamina propria and Muscularis mucosa , but in the (Wbk) the layer of Muscularis mucosa was absent.• The lining epithelium of (Ibp) composed of keratinized stratified squamous epithelium , while it consisted of non keratinized stratified squamous epithelium in the (Wbk).• The lamina propria of (Ibp) consisted of loose connective tissue , while in the (Wbk) it consisted of fibrous connective tissue .• The esophageal glands of (Ibp) were situated in the lamina propria , these glands were simple branched alveolar type, while the esophageal glands of (Wbk) were observed within lining epithelium layer and these glands were simple tubular type.• The oesophageal glands in (Ibp) were less developed in the posterior part (thoracic) in comparison to anterior part ( cervical), while theseglands were absent in crop but it arranged along oesophagus in (Wbk).• Tunica Muscularis consisted of two layers thicker, inner circular and thinner outer longitudinal in (Ibp) ,these layers separated by loose connective tissue, whereas inner thin longitudinal and outer thick circular in (Wbk) ,these layers separated by fibrous connective tissue• In both birds the tunica adventitia and serosa consisted of loose connective tissue with blood vessels and nerves but in serosa surrounded by mesothelium .Statistical Study : Iraqi block partridge and Whitebreasted kingfisher : • Results showed that the mean thickness of tunica mucosa was significantly greater in anterior part (cervical) oesophagus of (Ibp) as compared to (Wbk), while the mean thickness of both tunica muscularis and adventitia were significantly greater in (Wbk) as compared to (Ibp) (p<0,05).• The main thickness of tunica mucosa was significantly greater in median part ( crop) of oesophagus in (Ibp) as compared to (Wbk) (p<0.05).• The mean thickness of tunica mucosa was significantly greater in posterior part ( thoracic) of oesophagus in (Ibp) as compared to (Wbk)(p <0.05).
