Abstract:
Since the peoples' culture, their intellectual progress, and their position among the nations' and peoples' culture are contingent upon their thinkers, creative geniuses and experienced leaders, I started to deal with this subject believing in this vision and discussing the authors opinions reading their minds and notions about the personality of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him ) as he represents a prominent signpost of super honour and immortality, and it would be of most important if we knew about the emptiness of the critic field that took up the elegic poetry of Imam Hussein ( peace be upon him) during the Middle Age as a subject equivalent to its other critical studies. The thesis form and its scientific subject required to be devided into chapters preceded by an introduction and ended with a conclusion followed by a summary about the elegists of Imam Hussein (peace be upon him)mentioned in this study. The introduction dealt with the Husseini elegizing march formed during the Pre - Middle Ages, and the form it adopted as a method, then the disagreement and agreement points of the nature of the Husseini elegizing during the Middle Age. In the first chapter, I dealt with the structural form of the Husseini elegizing, in which I studied the setup of the poem, stanza, sonnet and pentameter, followed by a talk about the fictional narration, which is considered as a texture connecting the poem parts. While the second chapter revealed the nature of the language of these elegies, their expressions, structures and styles. The third chapter studied the rhythmic setup of the Husseini elegy, and was devided into two sections. The first dealt with the extemal rhythm represented by rhyme and meter, while the second one studied the internal rhythm such as paronomasia, run - on lines, rhyme, internal rhyme and repetition. As for the fourth chapter dealt with the poetic image constituents and divisions of personification, embodiment and humanization. The study required an analytic descriptive method that tends to be somewhat normative. The references that the researcher adopted were distributed to the poetic divans (printed manuscripts), in addition to the poetic collections that included the poetry of this era. While the old and modern books of criticism, rhetoric, grammar and linguistics were my basic references. The difficulties I faced were many , of them were the long subject of the study which resulted in the multiplicity of the poetic texts, difficulty of reading the manuscript due to the intermixing of the copies lines, and the fewness of the references that studied this era that led the researcher to buckle down to arrive at a number of results , of them diminishing the belief that this era is called the (Dark Age) due to the multiplicity of the literary works produced during it - rather the literary production is the most outstanding phenomenon of its creativeness and existence, in addition, the Husseini poem had comprehended all types of artistic setup in terms of its external form, its structure pattern , maintaing the pedigree of its language and contents, and its being free from grammatical mistakes, as well as using the meters and rhymes that were greatly used during the pre - Middle Ages. The most important feature that distinguishes this period is its sensuous images which constituted a great portion of its total. This study could not be achieved without the great efforts presented by the Assistant Professor, the Supervisor of the thesis, Dr. Ali Gatea Khalaf Al - Muhammadawi for his invaluable guidance and striking advice which were the best support to arrive at these results.Recommendations : At last I'd like to review a set of suggestions, the most important of them is inviting the researchers to write creatively about this era as it is worthier to be studied and to reveal its concealed pearls, and to study those poets separately as I'm sure that we would get a great linguistic and literary heritage. I also suggest studying the Husseini elegizing in the other countries during the Middle Age.
