Abstract: The cross sections for (p,n) and (n,p) reactions were calculated according to the available International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) libraries and other experimental published data. The well known international libraries like EXFOR, ENDF, JENDL, JEF, JEFF, BROND, CENDL, contain some cross sections measured during the period from the middle of the last century up to several years ago. This study is concerned with the nuclear reactions used in the production of the protons or neutrons, which are important in shielding calculations, accelerators and proton therapy. The analyzing of a complete energy range has been done starting from threshold energy for each reaction. The cross sections are reproduced in fine steps of incident proton or neutron energy in 0.01 MeV intervals with their corresponding errors. The adopted cross sections for all available experimental data have been calculated for all the considered reactions. A mathematical representative equation for all these reactions is formulated. These equations represent the variation of the cross section with energy, which could be used to predict the values of uncalculated cross sections. The cross sections of light elements like Tritium , Helium , Lithium isotopes ,Berlium , Boron isotopes , Carbon , Nitrogen , Oxigen , Alaminum , Silinum isotopes , , , and Phosfor in specific reactions were considered. The calculation of the adopted values for (p,n) and (n,p) reactions have been done and compared with international libraries which give good agreements. The (n,p) reactions cross sections values are derived from the data of (p,n) reactions and visa versa as a function of neutron or proton energy, respectively, by using the reciprocity theory and the principle of reverse reactions for the ground state. The stopping power according to Zeigler formulae was used in order to obtain the neutron yield for each reaction. Q - value, threshold energy, binding energy, compound nucleus cross sections, transmitted wavelength and the probability of occurrence of the reaction have been also calculated. The programmes of adopt.m, reverse.m, stop.m, yield.m, and cnpw.m have been built for the first time in the present work using Matlab 7.0 to calculate the results of the present work, as well as SRIM (2003) program. The evalutated (p,n) and (n,p) cross sections which are used for the first time, in spite of the numerous data available, a limited number of studies concerning the light elements with very small half life are still very important in nuclear technology. They prove that our calculated values are in good agreement with the published data.
