Abstract:
ويلا كايثر كاتبه امريكيه كتبت العديد من الروايات قدمت فيها بعض الشخصيات النسائيه الرئيسه اللاتي يبحثن عن انجاز ما في مجتمع يقف بينهن وبين امنياتهن. شخصيات ويلا كايثر الرئيسه تتبنى نظريه ذكوريه تجاه الحياة والتي تظهر في رواتي, حبيبتي انطونيا والمستكشفون الاوائل, تعكس هاتين الروايتين طبيعة ارض نبراكسا الصعبة المالحه وتعرض الصراع بين المزارعين والارض, نتيجه لذلك فان هولاء النسوة يؤمن بان الحياه تتطلب قوة وشدة وعمل دؤوب لتغلب عليها, مع رغبة شديدة وعزم يمكنهن التعايش مع الصعوبات وبالتالي تحقيق اهدافهن. وتعرض الروايتين الاخريين, احد اصدقائنا ومنزل الاستاذ, نبراسكا في حقبة الحرب العالميه الاولى وما تلاها من نتائج واحداث انعكست على ذلك المجتمع. نتيجة لذلك فان الرجال في روايات ويلا كايثر يجدون انفسهم في ضروف تجعلهم يعشون في حاله من الضياع يحاولون الهروب منها عن طريق الغوص في مواقف مبهمه في محاوله منهم لتحقيق داتهم. الغرض الرئيسي من الرساله هو دراسه الشخصيات الذكوريه والنسويه بالتضاد مع بعضهما البعض. تقع الرساله في ثلاث فصول وخاتمه : الفصل الاول مقسم الى ثلاثة مباحث, المبحث الاول يسلط الضوء على المجتمع الامريكي في القرن التاسع عشر وبدايه القرن العشرين. والمبحث الثاني يسلط الضوء على تصوير المراة في الروايه الامريكية, اما المبحث الثالث فهو عباره عن مختصر لحياة الكاتبه وانعكاسها على روايتها وبالتالي شخصياتها الادبيه.يسلط الفصل الثاني الضوء على دراسه وتحليل الشخصيات النسويه في راويتي ويلا كايثر : حبيبتي انطونيا والمستكشفون الاوائل. ان شخصياتها النسويه شديدات الامر الذي يمكنهن من مواجهة صعوبات الحياة بجديه.كرس الفصل الثالث لدراسات الشخصيات الذكوريه في روايتي, احد اصدقائنا ومنزل الاستاذ, وفي هذه الروايات يظهر الرجال حائرين لايعرفون كيف يواجهو الحياة بحكمه.اختيرت الروايات الاربعه هذه لان لها صله قويه ومباشره بموضوع الرسالة. تىنتهى الرسالة بخاتمه تستخلص اهم ما توصلت اليه الدراسة. | Willa Cather is an American novelist who wrote some novels presenting female protagonists, who are in search for achievement in a society that stands against their wishes. Cathers female characters, like her usually adopt a masculine view of life. As two of her novels, OPioneers and My Antonia, reflect the nature of Nebraskas land, and how hard and salty it is, also they present the real struggle of farmers to cultivate the land. Cathers females believe that life requires a strong, tough, and active stance to conquer it. So, they are mostly strong - willed, sturdy and resolute who have the spiritual powers that enable them to cope with the difficulties facing them and succeed in achieving their goals. Whereas the other two novels, One of Ours and The Professors House present Nebraska during World War I, and the consequences of war upon people. In these two novels Cathers male protagonists find themselves in circumstances that make them live in a chaotic state of loss which they try to escape from by throwing themselves in desperate situations, so that they may attain self - realization. The main purpose of this thesis is to study Cathers male and female characters in contrast to each other. The contrast illustrates how Cathers female faces environmental and social crisis and difficulties assertively and courageously. Besides, it shows the males bewildered and lackadaisical state in facing and dealing with personal dilemmas and social circumstances. The thesis also tries to shed light on and analyize all the social and economic circumstances that the hero and the heroine face. The thesis, then, is a character study of the protagonists found in selected novels by Willa Cather with emphasis on their relations with society. The thesis is divided into three chapters and a conclusion : the first chapter is introductory. It is divided into three sections. The first section is an introduction to the American society in the end of the nineteenth century and at the beginning of twentieth century, discussing all he social and economic circumstances that affected the lives of people and reflected themselves in Cathers novels. The second section is a historical review of the presentation of woman in the American novel. The third section is a biographical sketch of the novelist, explaining all the circumstances that have their effects on her as a woman and as a writer with emphasis on her view of life and how woman should deal with the problems of life. Abrief analysis will also be made of Cather and Feminism. The second chapter focuses on the study and analysis of Willa Cathers females in two novels : OPioneers and My Antonia. In these novels, Cathers females are characterized by the strength of character, forebearance and fortitude, characteristics that make them able to face the difficulties of life and never surrender to them. The third chapter is devoted to the study of Cathers male protagonists in two novels : One Of Ours and The Professors House. In these novels, the males are somehow in a horrible state of loss and depression, a condition that makes them unable to resist the pressures of life and finally leads one of them to throw himself in the battlefield, while leave the other unwilling to save himself from death. The four novels are chosen because they are very important among Cathers works of fiction, in addition to the fact that they have a close bearing on the subject under study. The thesis ends with a conclusion that sums up the findings of the study
