Abstract:
People are exposed to ionizing radiation from the radionuclides that are present in different types of natural sources, of which water and soil are of the most important sources.Where in this study natural radioactivity in Twenty - nine water samples and Thirty - two soil samples are collected from different locations around the Uranium mine in Abu Sakhir of the province of Najaf using Gamma spectroscopy. Also in present study of Radon concentration in water samples were detected using the RAD - 7 technique.The values of activity concentration for 226Ra, 232Th, 40K in water samples have been found to lie in the range of (2.822±1.953 to 51.888±3.473Bq/L),(7.0944±0.804 to 28.450±2.194Bq/L) and (217.86±11.805 to 920.58±15.024 Bq/L ) respectively. While the Radium equivalent values vary from( 33.507±5.895 Bq/L) to (156.136±8.186 Bq/L).The soil samples has been found that the specific activity of 226Ra, 232Th and 40K ranged from (15.13 ±7.06 to 229.65 ±8.21 Bq/kg) , from (5.43±0.94 to 29.011±1.729 Bq/kg) ,and from (227.96±11.4 to 1045.599±7.878 Bq/kg) respectively.and values of Radium equivalent was in range from (57.69± 6.65 to 285.22± 10.77 Bq/kg).The values of Radon Concentrations are in range between (142 to 318.75 mBq/L).Finally, he found that all the concentration of radium in the water samples were within the range allowed a 33 Bq/L, except for w19, w28, and a was above the allowed range, but for most of the samples of soil samples was above the permitted range S3 and S29 were within the range.We have noted that thorium concentrations in water and soil samples were within the range allowed a 45 Bq/L. As is the case where the concentration of potassium found that all water samples were within the permitted range of 370 Bq / L but in the soil samples was observed that most of the high samples except samples S12 and S21
