Abstract:
To assess the value of Real - time Elastography (RTE) in evaluation of the effect of varicocele on the elasticity of the testicular interstitium and ability to predict the effect of varicocele on the sperm motility.Methods : In total of 73 candidate. 50 patient with varicocele and 23 control normal volunteer were examined by ultrasound B mode gray scale, color Doppler and elastography . Elasticity images of the testicles were assigned the color - coded score of Itoh , according to the distribution of strain induced by light compression. RTE findings were analyzed and compare the result of affected patient with normal volunteer.Results : Most of the testicles of the varicocele patient showed elevated elastography ratio as compared with the same side of normal volunteer, also there was positive correlation between the varicocele grade and the elasto ratio. When I compared the percentage of active motile sperm with elasto ratio I found negative correlation.Conclusions : RTE is non - invasive, bed side test, useful technique in assessing the changes which happen in the interstitium of the affected testicles with varicocele and in the prediction of the active motile sperm status.This is relevant in clinical practice allowing expectant management according to elasto ratio in selected cases.(as the testicular elasto ratio will predict the outcome of varicocele operation in at the point of sperm quality improvement).
