Abstract: The study of the environmental impacts of tourism an important aspect of urban and regional planning studies as a result of rapid environmental changes witnessed by the world as a result of tourism. Therefore, the study built on a problem that religious tourism environmental impacts on the holy city of Karbala, where the lead to put many of the pollutants in the air, water and soil environment.. In came the study hypothesis, which stipulates that religious tourism negative impacts on the holy city of Karbala, as it requires setting the right policies to protect the environment, and especially since this type of tourism has become comparable to most types of tourism must be highlighted, especially, it is this kind began increasing and this increase in number has significant effects on the place must be the right policies for the management of such tourism properly without any negative impact is noteworthy. The study came in three chapters, the first theoretical framework and previous studies, where the display of previous studies, concepts andterms in the environment and tourism, came as well as knowledge of the relationship between the environment and human and also examine the relationship between tourism and the environment as well as the handling of this chapter offering theoretical tourism impacts on the environment. Either in the second chapter in which he explained the reality of the study area, which has been handling the natural and human characteristics and the reality of the case of religious tourism, as well as the reality of the environmental situation in the city during visits. The third chapter, in which the field study based on analysis of one field survey forms, including citizens and other entities related came. The study by the use of simple regression equation using the three variables (the number of the population, the number of visitors, the amount of waste) and grandfather there is a big impact on the city in terms of the claims of visitors from waste during religious visits in addition to the claims of the population, The study also concluded that most of the waste at hand is the type of steel and also the study found that the policies pursued inappropriate by the departments concerned, As well as the absence of laws and regulations concerning waste treatment raised millions during visits. Researcher has recommended the issuance and activation of laws and regulations that provide for the protection of the environment when visiting hours, creating efficient and cadres specialized in the field of environmental protection and pollution control during the visits, Provision and improvement of tourism services, which include sewage and water treatment plants. As well as raising awareness through seminars and conferences for the citizens in order to preserve the environment.
